USJASA Holds First Badminton Competition to Foster Friendship and Exchange through Sport

USJASA held its first badminton competition on 26 October at the USJ Ilha Verde Campus, aiming to strengthen communication and connections among alumni.



In support of the 15th National Games of the People’s Republic of China, the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th National Special Olympic Games, the University of Saint Joseph Alumni Sports Association (USJASA) organised the USJASA Badminton Competition. The event was co-organized by the Office for Students and Alumni Affairs (OSAA) and aimed to strengthen ties between alumni and students while promoting the enjoyment of sports to the public.

The competition commenced at 1pm on 26 October at the USJ Ilha Verde Campus. The event featured men’s singles and mixed doubles categories, attracting numerous alumni and students to participate. The Chairman of USJASA, Mr. Gavin Hoi, stated that the event aimed to create a platform for alumni interaction and encourage active participation in physical exercise. He also mentioned that the USJASA will actively organize various sports activities in the future to promote exchanges across different cohorts and campuses.

The Vice-Chairman of the Executive Committee of the USJ Alumni Association (AAUSJ), Ms. Lydia Tong,  sincerely thanked all the alumni, university, and secondary school students for their participation. She emphasized that the badminton competition was not only a sports competition but also an important bridge to strengthen bonds and foster unity among all parties.

In addition to USJ students and alumni, the competition also invited students from the Colégio Diocesano de São José 6 (CDSJ6) to join in the friendly competition, creating an exchange platform for different age groups and gathering positive energy through sports. After a series of intense matches, the men’s singles champion was Jan Soltes, the Runner-Up was Hong Chi Ho from CDSJ6, and the third place was won by Tommy Pun. In the mixed doubles category, the championship was secured by the Newborn Team, the Professional Ball Retrievers Team won the second place, and the third place went to the CDSJ6 team.

The event specially acknowledged the student volunteers from CDSJ6 for their assistance and venue support, which ensured the smooth completion of the competition.
