The event focused on addiction prevention and professional education development in the helping professions.
On 9 January 2026, a delegation comprising faculty members and postgraduate students from the Master of Social Sciences in Counselling Programme at the City University of Hong Kong visited the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) for a half-day academic exchange with USJ’s Faculty of Health Sciences’ Social Work Programme.
The event focused on addiction prevention and professional education development in the helping professions. Through student-led thematic presentations and interactive group discussions, participants examined current trends in addictive behaviours and shared valuable insights on teaching methodologies, curriculum design, and the effective integration of theory with practice.
Prof Jacky Ho, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at USJ, delivered welcoming remarks together with Prof Kwan Chi Kin from City University of Hong Kong. Both professors emphasised the importance of evidence-informed and practice-oriented teaching approaches in addiction-related education, and expressed strong support for sustained inter-institutional collaboration to cultivate future helping professionals.

In the student presentation session, students delivered concise, theory-informed analyses of contemporary addiction issues and presented comprehensive three-tier prevention and intervention frameworks. Dr. Kooni Ma from CityUHK and Senior Lecturer Stella O from USJ also participated throughout, guiding cross-disciplinary dialogue among those present.

Both universities expressed their appreciation for the productive collaboration and their strong commitment to building on this event as a foundation for future teaching exchanges, knowledge sharing, and joint initiatives in social work and counselling education across the region. FHS is committed to train the next generation of professional to actively engage to support the community.
