“USJ hosted a preparatory luncheon for student volunteers and organisers of the 2026 Regional Student Service-Learning Summit and Uniservitate Award 2026 Ceremony. The gathering provided an opportunity to recognise volunteers, finalise organisational arrangements, and strengthen collaboration ahead of the international event that will bring participants from across the Asia-Pacific region to Macau in August 2026.
On Tuesday, 16 June 2026, the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) hosted a special luncheon as part of the preparations for the upcoming 2026 Regional Student Service-Learning Summit and the UNISERVITATE Award 2026 Ceremony, which will take place in Macau from 1 – 8 August 2026.
The University of Saint Joseph, in collaboration with the UNISERVITATE Asia & Oceania (A&O) Hub, is honoured to host this important international gathering under the theme “Exchange. Engage. Empower: Sharing Student Journeys in Service-Learning”. The event will bring together approximately 70 students, faculty members, and service-learning practitioners from across the Asia-Pacific region to celebrate, share, and advance service-learning initiatives.
The luncheon had three main objectives: to recognise and thank the student volunteers who will support the Summit, to conduct a tasting session of the menu prepared by the USJ Canteen operators “Sabores Lusitanos”, the official catering provider for the event, and to discuss the roles and responsibilities that volunteers will undertake during the week-long programme.
Among those present from USJ were Dr. Alejandro Salcedo, Acting Rector; Professor Álvaro Barbosa, Vice-Rectors for Academic Affairs and Internationalisation; Dr. Teresa Loong, Vice-Rector for Student Life; Prof. Karen Tagulao, representing the Sustainability Committee; and Prof. Vítor Teixeira, from the USJ Service-Learning Coordination Entity. The Uniservitate Asia & Oceania Hub was represented by Romina Abuan, Marietta Guanzon, and Hannah Pabalan from De La Salle University. Eight of the twelve student volunteers who will support the Summit in August also attended the gathering: Charlie, Eaint, Aeint Muu, Jerry, Auggie, Adams, Darwi, and Lucas.
During the lunch, Dr. Alejandro Salcedo expressed his gratitude to the student volunteers for their willingness to serve and contribute to the success of the Summit. As a gesture of appreciation and friendship, the representatives from Uniservitate presented traditional products from the Philippines to all those in attendance.
The gathering provided a valuable opportunity for informal conversations and relationship-building among the organising team, the Uniservitate representatives, and the student volunteers.
The meeting also resulted in the agreement of a methodology for the allocation and coordination of volunteer responsibilities during the Summit, ensuring that all participants are well prepared for the event.
With preparations progressing smoothly and enthusiasm growing among all involved, the gathering concluded with a shared sense of purpose and commitment. United by a spirit of service, the organising team and volunteers look forward to welcoming participants from across the Asia-Pacific region and making the 2026 Regional Student Service-Learning Summit an inspiring and memorable experience for all.
