USJ Macao and Sogang University, Seoul City, South Korea, signed an MOU to enhance the strategic partnerships

The visit to Sogang University in Seoul, South Korea, aimed to strengthen existing ties between the two universities and expand USJ Macao’s network of international collaborations.



A delegation of the University of Saint Joseph Macao (USJ Macao) recently visited Sogang University, Seoul City, South Korea, on May 8th, 2024, aiming to expand the existing collaboration further and enhancing the cooperation network of USJ Macao by promoting teaching and research exchanges with higher education institutions in the Asia region and nurture joint efforts to cultivate innovative talent with global competitiveness.

During the visit, an MoU was signed between USJ Macao Rector, Rev. Prof Stephen Morgan, and Sogang University Rector, Rev. Fr. Luke Sim Jong-hook, SJ. This MoU outlines the basis for cooperation, focusing on strategic areas relevant for both universities: teaching, technology assimilation, research, and innovation initiatives. The two parties may engage in joint programmes, sharing best practices among their members.

Also present at the signing Ceremony were the USJ Macao members, respectively, Deans of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Prof. Carlos Caires, the Faculty of Health Sciences, Prof. Jacky Ho and the Manager of International Affairs Office, Mrs Ana Paula Mota and Sogang University members respectively, the Vice-President for International Affairs, Fr. Seil Oh, SJ and the Associate Prof. Michael Unger of Film at the Graduate School of Metaverse and Department of Media and Entertainment.

Alongside the visit, on May 9th, the USJ Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Prof Carlos Caires, had a special public lecture at the Media and Entertainment Department and Metaverse Department of the College of Media, Arts and Sciences at Sogang University on “Design Thinking and Methodology and Prompt Text-to-Image Artificial Intelligence: A case Study Context of Design Education”. 


Sogang University was established by the Society of Jesus to provide an education based on Catholic beliefs and inspired by the Jesuit philosophy of education, in conformity with the Korean tradition of education. The University aims the education of the whole person with love and faith, respect the values on the sense of human dignity and encourage to pursue and seek for learning with the sincere quest for truth.
