The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) marked a major milestone for English-medium education in Macao with the launch of General Studies Supplementary Notes: Empowering Teaching and Learning in Macau on 13 October, at the Lo’s Library in the USJ Ilha Verde Campus. The publication, led by Chief Editor Prof. Isabel Tchiang, Dean of the School of Education and Director of the Teachers’ Professional Development Centre, addressed a significant gap for schools teaching General Studies in English, as the official textbook from the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEDJ) was only available in Chinese. The new resource, which offers lesson plans, project ideas, and assessments tailored to Macao’s unique context and aligned with local curriculum requirements, has been made available for distribution to educational institutions across Macao.
The project was supported by Bishop Stephen Lee Bun-Sang and funded by the Diocesan Catholic Education Commission (CDEC), with contributions from more than ten teacher-authors from Colégio Diocesano de São José (CDSJ), Colégio Diocesano de São José 5 (CDSJ5), and Santa Rosa de Lima English Secondary School. The launch was also attended by Dr. Zhang Shuguang, Vice-Rector of USJ; Dr. Stephen Chan, Office Director of the CDEC; Mr. Wong Kin Man, Principal of CDSJ5; Mr. Ng Teng Chio, Principal of CDSJ; and Ms. Alice Leong.
