The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) successfully hosted the Second International Symposium on Biographical Narratives in Media and Information Literacy Cities, Tell.Me Symposium, on 30 April 2025, at USJ Macao. Building upon the success of its inaugural event, this year’s symposium explored the evolving role of personal narratives in fostering media and information literacy within increasingly complex urban environments.

A diverse group of researchers and educators from over six countries participated in the symposium, including representatives from Macao, the Philippines, Brazil, Portugal, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The event emphasised the importance of understanding and leveraging biographical narratives to promote critical thinking and creativity and cultivate cross-cultural understanding.

“In an era of unprecedented information flow, the ability to critically evaluate narratives is more crucial than ever”, stressed Professor Adérito Fernandes-Marcos, Dean of the Doctoral School at USJ.

This year’s programme featured keynote addresses from leading experts in the field, including:

A highlight of the symposium was the presentation of the outcomes of “Radio.Me” project and the inauguration of the RadioMe web station, now available on https://radio.usj.edu.mo/public/radiome, conducted by Prof. António Maneira (USJ) and João Megale (UNICAMP, Brazil).

The Tell.Me Symposium 2025 was organised by the USJ Doctoral School and Faculty of Arts and Humanities, with support from UNESCO MIL ALLIANCE, CIAC — Research Centre for Arts and Communication, and Artech International. The event was also financially sponsored by the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) of the Macao SAR government.

“We are thrilled with the success of Tell.Me 2025” said Professor Adérito Fernandes-Marcos, “we look forward to continuing this important work in the years to come, as autobiographic narratives are intrinsically part of our lives as individuals and communities.”
