USJ’s Prof. Nuno Soares will be the Keynote Speaker at “Towards a Living Waterfront Conference – Urban Strategies and Conceptual Designs for Macau”, on December 9, at Ponte 9 – Creative Platform.

“Towards a Living Waterfront – Urban Strategies and Conceptual Designs for Macau” is an event organised by CURB – Center for Architecture and Urbanism with the sponsorship of the Macao Foundation and support of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ), and Ponte 9 Creative Platform, in collaboration with the School of Architecture of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Prof. Nuno Soares, Head of the Department of Architecture and Urbanism of the USJ Faculty of Arts and Humanities (FAH), will be the Keynote Speaker at the Conference.

“Towards a Living Waterfront – Urban Strategies and Conceptual Designs for Macau” aims to discuss the future urban development of Macao under the new Macau Master Plan and within the Greater Bay Area Plan. The conference background is based on the in-depth research, master plans and Master thesis developed during a six-year collaboration between the Macau-based CURB and the Master of Urban Design at the School of Architecture of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

The conference event will be conducted in English and the programme follows three key topics whose research and outcomes were developed in laboratories that lasted two years each and are organized in three sessions:

Session 1 | Entrepreneurial City Lab
Re-Envisioning Cotai And Seac Pai Van As An Urban Catalyst

Integrated into the framework of the New Macau Masterplan, this Session features a series of innovative masterplans to integrate the south part of Cotai with the Seac Pai Van neighbourhood in Coloane, aiming to achieve a vibrant and sustainable entrepreneurial district with a high quality of life.

Session 2 | New Town Lab
Re-Scripting Urban Rules For A Sustainable District In Taipa New Land Reclamation

This Session showcases new urban plans for the New Land Reclamation Islands on Taipa side. The urban plans were conceived as a pilot case study for an ideal New Town whose urban principles, layout and infrastructural strategy should be able to influence the future development of Taipa Island at large.

Session 3 | Cross-Border Lab
Reframing The Urban Edge Between Macau And Zhuhai

Developed under the framework of the Great Bay Area Initiative, this Session features a series of visionary masterplans for the future cross-border area between Macau and Zhuhai, exploring the potential of the interface between these cities as a place for intensified urban experience and quality of life.

The conference will be followed by the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony of CURB x CUHK Exhibitions where the results of the long-term academic project between CURB and the School of Architecture of CUHK are displayed.

The event will take place on 9 December 2023, from 14:00 to 18:00, at Ponte 9 – Creative Platform, located at Rua das Lorchas, Ponte 9 – 3/F, Macau.
