University of Saint Joseph ranked top 10 overall in Mainland China and the Macao and Hong Kong SARs in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2023.



The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) has been ranked for the third year in a row in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings for 2023. THE Impact Rankings evaluate universities’ social impact and contribution to the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Framework.

This year, THE Impact Rankings accepted 1,591 universities from 112 countries and regions, a 13% increase compared to last year’s numbers. In addition to the 9 SDGs from last year, USJ was also ranked on Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11) for the first time.

The results, released on 1st June 2023, placed USJ in the top 30% of universities worldwide for its impact on Quality Education (SDG 4). USJ also ranked second in its contribution in marine sciences and sustainability (SDG 14) in Greater China, spearheaded by the Institute of Science and Environment. USJ’s other qualifying SDGs included a top third ranking in the world for the goal to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls (SDG 5). The greatest improvement was in Partnership for the goals (SDG 17), which had a rating jump of over 8% from last year.

USJ also remains the 1st ranked university in Macao and placed at the 7th position among Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao Higher Education Institutions, concurrently with two Universities from Mainland China (Guangdong University of Technology and South China University).
