On the 20th of March, 2023, Holy Mass was offered at the University of Saint Joseph’s (USJ) Seminary Campus to celebrate our patronal solemnity of Saint Joseph.

The solemn Mass was presided over by the Bishop of Macao and Chancellor of USJ, D. Stephen Lee Bun-sang, and attended by more than a hundred of our students, professors, and staff. During the homily the Bishop spoke about St. Joseph and his important vocation which is to be the father of the Messiah.  The USJ Chancellor reminded us that St. Joseph is a man of faith and a man of love.  He also underlined the importance of the dream that St. Joseph had, which was not just any dream, but a dream that carried with it a divine message, a dream that spoke about his vocation.

His Excellency also emphasized how important it is to have dreams and to have the will to achieve them, but only with faith is it possible to overcome the difficulties and unknowns, to pursue our dreams and to turn darkness into light.  At the end of his homily, the Bishop encouraged the students to get enough rest, study hard, and cultivate positive relationships with the people around them, especially the faithful, out of charity.  After the Holy Eucharist, the faithful who participated in the Mass had a small gathering to celebrate this solemn Feast.

Some of USJ’s students and staff members who plan to attend the upcoming World Youth Day also organised a fundraiser on the day of the St. Joseph’s Mass to help the victims of the earthquakes in Syria and Turkey.  Their idea was to make people aware of how important it is to help people not only around us, but also those who are far away and in need of our solidarity, especially during the Lenten Season.  Representatives from the World Youth Day delegation, together with some USJ staff members, handed out sweets and brochures explaining the purpose of the event and collected donations which will be forwarded to Caritas Macau.
