On 14 March, 2025, Rev’d Professor Stephen Morgan, Rector of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ), led a delegation of four to visit Wuhan University (WHU).
On 14 March, 2025, Rev’d Professor Stephen Morgan, Rector of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ), led a delegation of four to visit Wuhan University (WHU). They were warmly received by Prof. Yuan Yufeng, the Vice President of WHU. The visit aimed to strengthen cooperation between the two universities in the fields of philosophy, religious studies, and student exchange, culminating in the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU), marking a new phase in the partnership between the two institutions.
During the visit, Rector Morgan and Vice President Yuan had a cordial meeting. Vice President Yuan extended a warm welcome to the delegation and provided a detailed introduction to WHU’s history, achievements in international exchange, and the education of students from Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. He emphasised WHU’s commitment to educational collaboration with the Hong Kong and Macau regions and expressed hopes for cooperation in academic research and faculty-student exchange.
Rector Morgan expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and introduced the unique educational characteristics of USJ. He highlighted the university’s role as an international University dedicated to serving as a bridge between mainland China and Portuguese-speaking countries. He looked forward to future collaborations, such as hosting international academic conferences and fostering faculty and student exchange.
The two sides engaged in an in-depth discussion on cooperation in philosophy and religious studies. Both parties agreed that there is great potential for collaboration in academic research and talent cultivation. They pledged to enhance exchanges and cooperation to advance the academic development and internationalisation of both universities.
Following the meeting, the two universities officially signed a MOU. The document was signed by Prof. Yuan Yufeng of WHU, Vice President, and Dr. Teresa Loong, Vice-Rector for Student Life, with Prof. Morgan, Rector of USJ witnessing the signing ceremony. The signing of the memorandum marks a further deepening of the partnership and lays a solid foundation for future academic exchanges and cooperation.
USJ will continue to uphold its international education philosophy and actively promote cooperation with mainland Chinese universities. Going forward, USJ will continue to work with WHU to explore innovative developments in higher education and provide more opportunities for faculty and students to exchange and collaborate.
