Prof Alexandre Lobo, Head of the Laboratory of Applied Neurosciences, presented the “Neuroscience for Young Scientists” talk at The International School (TIS), promoting scientific education and empowering young minds to explore the fascinating world of neuroscience.

On 12th March, Prof Alexandre Lobo, Head of the Laboratory of Applied Neurosciences at the University of Saint Joseph (LAN/USJ), presented the “Neuroscience for Young Scientists” talk at The International School (TIS). The audience consisted of approximately 100 enthusiastic primary school children who are currently studying the fundamentals of scientific thinking.

During the interactive session, Prof. Lobo captivated the young minds by exploring into the intricacies of how the brain functions and how it influences our emotions. The students actively participated in the discussion, and asked questions that showed their curiosity and eagerness to learn.

To provide a hands-on experience, the primary students had the opportunity to test a brain monitoring device, allowing them to witness first-hand the wonders of measuring brain activity. They were also introduced to software that can automatically detect emotions such as happiness, sadness, anger, and surprise, based on facial expressions.

The session proved to be both educational and entertaining, fostering a deeper understanding of neuroscience among the young learners. Prof. Lobo’s ability to simplify complex concepts and his interactive approach left a lasting impression on the students.

“The engagement and enthusiasm displayed by the students were truly inspiring,” said Prof. Lobo. “It was a pleasure to share our knowledge and witness their curiosity in action. Events like these are crucial in cultivating a passion for scientific exploration from an early age.”

The University of Saint Joseph remains committed to promoting scientific education and empowering young minds to explore the fascinating world of neuroscience. Such initiatives contribute to nurturing the next generation of scientists and innovators who will shape the future.
