“Food in a Flash” Research Findings Presented at Press Conference

The Macao Observatory for Social Development together with the Macau Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM) and the Choi In Tong Sam Association conducted a research titled “Food in a Flash” to study the growing food delivery industry and the working conditions of its drivers in Macao.

The Macao Observatory for Social Development (MOSD) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ), the Macau Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM), and the Choi In Tong Sam Association conducted a research titled “Food in a Flash” to study the growing food delivery industry and the working conditions of its drivers in Macao.

The press conference was held on September 7, 2023, and the findings were presented by Legislative Council member and Deputy Director of the Macau Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM) Mr. Leong Sun Iok, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Director of the MOSD Prof. Jacky Ho, Centre Officer of MOSD Mr. Erik Kok, Secretary General of the Choi In Tong Sam Association Mr. Kou On Fong and chief researcher of the FAOM Policy Research Office Mr. Lei Chin Tou.

The primary focus of this survey is on the dynamic work environment and mental health of delivery drivers. It delves into the present work conditions and stress experienced by Macao’s delivery drivers, covering areas like algorithmic dispatch platforms, financial support, stress levels, and road safety awareness. Simultaneously, the Macao Observatory for Social Development is committee to observe the evolving trends in Macao’s industries and seeks collaboration with diverse stakeholders to address challenges in this ever-changing society.
