Delegation of the Secretariat of ASEACCU visits the Philippines

A Delegation of the Secretariat of the Association of Southeast and East Asian Catholic Colleges and Universities (ASEACCU) visited the Philippines from February 7th to 10th, 2023.
The Executive Secretary of the ASEACCU, Rector of the University of Saint Joseph Macao (USJ), the Reverend Professor Stephen Morgan, led a delegation of members of the staff of USJ, including the Vice-Rector for Internationalisation and Academic Affairs, Professor Álvaro Barbosa, Director of Office for Student and Alumni Affairs, Dr. Teresa Loong and the Manager of International Affairs, Mrs. Ana Paula Mota, together with the Director of the Saint Paul Institute (SPI) of Cambodia, Mr. Phon Sophal, on a visit to two Catholic Universities in the Philippines and members of ASEACCU, namely the Pontifical and Royal University of Santo Tomas (UST), Manila, and the Saint Louis University (SLU) in Baguio City.
The ASEACCU delegation was warmly welcomed by the Rector of UST, the Very Reverend Fr. Richard G. Ang, O.P., the Executive Secretary of the Office of the Rector, Prof. Marciana Agnes G. Ponsaran, the Director of the Office for Student Affairs, Asst. Prof. Maria Cecilia A. Tio Cuison, and the Director of Public Affairs, Asst. Prof. Joreen Rocamora.
On behalf of ASEACCU, Professor Morgan expressed his gratitude to UST, the predecessor of USJ as the ASEACCU Executive Secretariat, for the service rendered to the members of the association during their tenure for two terms under the Rectorships of Rev. Fr. Herminio V. Dagohoy, O.P. and Rev. Fr. Ang, O.P. Likewise. The Rector of USJ also took the opportunity to explore possibilities of academic exchanges and cooperation for academic collaboration between the universities.

A visit to Saint Louis University (SLU) in Baguio City followed. The delegation was warmly welcomed by the Rector of SLU, Rev. Fr. Gilbert Sales, CICM, the Chairman of the University Programmes Committee of SLU, Mr. Andrew Macalma, and the SLU team.
Saint Louis University (SLU), Baguio City, is the host institution of the 29th ASEACCU Annual Conference this year. This visit is intended to show the full support of the ASEACCU Secretariat for the work involved in the organisation of the 29th ASEACCU Annual Conference, taking place from August 22nd to 26th, 2023, in Baguio City, Philippines. During the meeting, both sides discussed the conference programme and the event’s operational logistics details. The ASEACCU Executive Secretary said that he believed the visit to SLU was an important opportunity to meet in person with the host university staff and exchange ideas.
Professor Morgan expressed his gratitude for the great hospitality of both Universities during these visits and felt that there was every reason to foresee that the 29th ASEACCU Annual Conference will be a success.

Furthermore, during these visits, USJ Rector had the opportunity to catch up with USJ’s alums in Manila, who are now on their mission in the Philippines.
