The USJ Institute for Data Engineering and Science is hosting a Seminar titled “The development of a Portuguese Language Model: The Experience of the University of Évora” by Prof. Paulo Quaresma, on Tuesday, 21 April, from 19:00 – 22:00, at the Don Bosco Auditorium.



About the Seminar:

Professor Paulo Quaresma will provide a summary of the current developments in artificial intelligence and offer insights into the future of the technology. This will enhance the global perspective of school students and their sensitivity to information.

About the Speaker:

Paulo Quaresma, Honorary President of the USJ Academy for Smart Health and Longevity R&D,Full Professor of Informatics at the University of Évora, Portugal; former Vice-Rector for Research, Innovation, and Internationalization (2018–2022) and former Director of the School of Science and Technology (2009–2013). PhD (Universidade Nova de Lisboa) and Agregação (University of Évora) in Informatics, specializing in AI and NLP. Former Board Member of FCT (2021). Founded the AI & BigData Lab at Évora, securing Alentejo2020 funding to deploy a 10-petaflops NVIDIA DGX-A100 cluster—integrated as a core node into Portugal’s National Advanced Computing Network (RNCA) 146. General Chair of PROPOR 2020 and IDEAL 2023. Author of 100+ publications, including 31 journal papers.
