The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) will host the “USJ International Cultural Carnival 2026″ on Saturday, 14th March, transforming its Ilha Verde Campus into a vibrant global village. The event offers the public a unique opportunity to experience the University’s rich multicultural environment while fostering meaningful connections between international students and the local Macao community.
Organised by students and staff members representing more than 50 nationalities, the Carnival will feature over 30 stalls offering a diverse array of food, games, and cultural activities. The opening ceremony will commence at 3:00 PM at the Ilha Verde Campus.
The event is sponsored by the Macau Foundation and Macau Coca-Cola Beverages Co., Ltd., with support from Macau Cable TV and O Clarim. Representatives from the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ), the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), along with university officials and other community leaders, are expected to attend.
A grand parade will kick off the festivities, with USJ students and staff from across the globe proudly carrying their national flags.
Throughout the afternoon, visitors can immerse themselves in a dynamic programme of attractions:
- Global Food & Cultural Booths: Embark on a culinary journey and explore traditions from China, Portugal, Brazil, the Philippines, Angola, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde, Timor-Leste, Myanmar, South Korea, and Russia, all brought to life by members of the USJ community.
- Live Performances: A packed stage will showcase global artistic talent, including lion dancing, guzheng performance, an African fashion show, and sets from the USJ Music Club and Student Band, USJ Dance Club, Band of Our Lady of Fatima Girls’ School, and Brazilian singer Jandira Silva.
- “Guardians of the Mangroves”: Immersive Art & Science Installation: A unique collaboration of the USJ Institute of Science and Environment and the DFLab of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, presenting an immersive mangrove reading room. This installation transforms scientific research into tactile art, using AI and 3D printing to make invisible genetic sequences from local mangrove forests tangible, creating what the artists call “Guardians.”
- Academic Information Booths: Prospective students and their families can explore the wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes on offer at USJ’s various faculties.
Admission to the Carnival is free and open to the public. For more information, please visit the official event website at icc.usj.edu.mo.
