The Public Lecture “Telecom Frauds” Are Not Related to You? — Media Literacy in the AI Era will take place on 9 May, from 8 – 9:30 PM in the Don Bosco Auditorium.



About the Talk:

Cases of Telecom Frauds are becoming increasingly rampant, with the amounts involved reaching new highs. Despite more promotional efforts to prevent scams, it seems that the scammers are always one step ahead. However, the general public often feels that Telecom Frauds are not related to them. But is this really the case? 

This sharing session will explore the true reasons behind the prevalence of Telecom Frauds from the perspectives of cultural and technological development. At the same time, it will discuss how media literacy in the AI era can help everyone establish the right mindset and specific actions to effectively deal with Telecom Frauds.

About the Speaker:

Dr. Sio Ka I, Alvis

Dr. Sio is currently an Assistant College Lecturer at the HKU School of Professional and Continuing Education, teaching courses related to media and culture. After completing her secondary education in Macau, she pursued further studies at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Cultural Studies and a Master’s degree in Gender Studies, followed by a Ph.D. in Chinese Studies from Durham University in the UK. She is interested in topics such as media literacy, media education, and the cultures of Hong Kong and Macau.
