II BRAZILIAN CARNIVAL IN MACAU

The Leitorado Guimarães Rosa, of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the University of Saint Joseph, is honored to present the second edition of the Brazilian Carnival in Macau, an event that celebrates the cultural richness of Brazil and promotes exchange between local and international traditions.

Held on March 7, 2026, at Broadway Street Food and The Roadhouse Macau, the event is organized by the Leitorado Guimarães Rosa of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ), Phoenix Music and Arts Services, and The Roadhouse Macau. It also has the support of Broadway and the Language Exchange & Culture Promotion Association, in addition to institutional support from the Consulate of Brazil in Hong Kong and Macau and the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at USJ. This partnership reaffirms the shared commitment to cultural dissemination and the strengthening of ties between Brazil and Macau.

CONTEXT AND CULTURAL RELEVANCE

Carnival is among the most expressive cultural manifestations on the planet, recognized for its diversity, creativity, and capacity for community engagement. In Macau, a territory historically marked by the meeting of cultures, this tradition is not yet fully rooted. Holding the Brazilian Carnival in the city not only offers the local community a unique festive experience but also serves as a platform for valuing and promoting Macanese and Brazilian cultures.

Through a carefully structured program, the event aims to:

1. a) Promote cultural expressions: Give visibility to Brazil’s artistic manifestations through parades, musical performances, dance, and gastronomy;
2. b) Encourage community involvement: Stimulate the active participation of the local community, fostering social integration and a sense of cultural belonging;
3. c) Value intangible heritage: Highlight the importance of Carnival as an expression of Brazilian cultural identity, encouraging its recognition and eventual adaptation to the Macau context.

In its first edition, the event saw significant public participation, bringing together hundreds of people who experienced the contagious energy of Brazilian Carnival, establishing itself as a relevant initiative in the city’s cultural calendar.

O Leitorado Guimarães Rosa, da Faculdade de Artes e Humanidades da Universidade de São José, tem a honra de apresentar a segunda edição do Carnaval Brasileiro em Macau, evento que celebra a riqueza cultural do Brasil e promove o intercâmbio entre tradições locais e internacionais.

Realizado no dia 7 de março de 2026, na Broadway Street Food e no The Roadhouse Macau, o evento é organizado pelo Leitorado Guimarães Rosa da Universidade de São José (USJ), pela Phoenix Music and Arts Services e pelo The Roadhouse Macau. Conta com o apoio da Broadway e da Language Exchange & Culture Promotion Association, além do apoio institucional do Consulado do Brasil em Hong Kong e Macau e da Faculdade de Artes e Humanidades da USJ. Essa parceria reafirma o compromisso conjunto com a difusão cultural e o fortalecimento dos laços entre Brasil e Macau.

Contexto e Relevância Cultural:

O Carnaval figura entre as mais expressivas manifestações culturais do planeta, reconhecido por sua diversidade, criatividade e capacidade de mobilização comunitária. Em Macau, território historicamente marcado pelo encontro entre culturas, esta tradição ainda não se encontra plenamente enraizada. A realização do Carnaval Brasileiro na cidade não apenas oferece à comunidade local uma experiência festiva singular, mas também se constitui como plataforma de valorização e promoção das culturas macaense e brasileira.

Por meio de uma programação cuidadosamente estruturada, o evento propõe-se a:

1. a) Difundir expressões culturais:Dar visibilidade às manifestações artísticas do Brasil por meio de desfiles, apresentações musicais, dança e gastronomia;
2. b) Fomentar o envolvimento comunitário:Estimular a participação ativa da comunidade local, promovendo integração social e sentimento de pertencimento cultural;
3. c) Valorizar o patrimônio imaterial:Ressaltar a importância do Carnaval enquanto expressão da identidade cultural brasileira, incentivando seu reconhecimento e eventual adaptação ao contexto macaense.

Na primeira edição, o evento registrou expressiva participação pública, reunindo centenas de pessoas que vivenciaram a energia contagiante do Carnaval brasileiro, consolidando-se como iniciativa de relevância no calendário cultural da cidade.
