On 26 November, a delegation from the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) visited Communication University of China (CUC) for formal discussions, leading to a series of collaborative agreements. Both institutions plan to sign a memorandum of understanding in Spring 2026, focusing on collaborative initiatives in artificial intelligence (AI) education, arts research, language cooperation, and health sciences, all aimed at enhancing Sino-Portuguese cultural exchange and driving educational innovation in the region.

The delegation led by Dr. Teresa Loong, Vice-Rector for Student Life, comprised Dr. Stephen Chan Teng-Fong, Office Director of the Diocesan Catholic Education Committee, Prof. Dai Jianbiao, Associate Dean of the Institute of Data Engineering and Science, Prof. José Simões, Associate Professor of the Department of Media, Arts, and Technology – Faculty of Arts and Humanities, David Yang, Director of the Institutional Development Office, and Jenny Mok, Senior Officer of the Student Recruitment Office. They were warmly received by Professor Yang Yi, Vice-President of CUC, alongside key representatives including Wang Wenyuan, Director of the Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Affairs Office, Li Jing, Deputy Director, Li Shufeng, Associate Dean of the School of Information and Communication Engineering, and Zhang Jiangfei, a lecturer in the Department of Artificial Intelligence.

During the meeting, both institutions engaged in productive discussions aimed at advancing several initiatives. These included the digitisation of historical documents from the Diocese, the exploration of AI solutions for smart health management and herbal medicine efficacy research, and USJ’s participation in the International Arts Research Alliance initiated by CUC, with a focus on expanding collaborations with Portuguese-speaking countries in the arts field. They also discussed advancing art-based therapeutic research for both the elderly and youth, and the establishment of a long-term partnership through a formal memorandum of understanding.

The University of Saint Joseph is committed to facilitating connections between its various faculties and CUC to ensure the successful implementation of these projects. This collaboration emphasises the shared vision of both universities for interdisciplinary education and research and it enhances Macao’s role as a unique platform for Sino-Portuguese cultural exchange, invigorating cultural cooperation and innovative development between the Greater Bay Area and Portuguese-speaking countries.
