The Book Launch of “General Studies Supplementary Notes: Empowering Teaching and Learning in Macau” will take place on Wednesday, 13 October, at 4:30PM, in the Lo Library.
A significant milestone for English-medium education in Macao, the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) will celebrate on 13 October, 2025 with the official launch of the book “General Studies Supplementary Notes: Empowering Teaching and Learning in Macau”. The launch event will be held at the University of Saint Joseph’s Library at 4:30 PM.
This pioneering publication directly addresses a critical need in Macao’s educational landscape. While the official General Studies textbook from the Macao SAR Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEDJ) is exclusively in Chinese, a growing number of local and international schools are adopting English as the medium of instruction for this core subject. This resource fills that gap, providing educators with tailored, context-rich materials for the first time.
The book is designed to support the DSEDJ’s emphasis on biliteracy and trilingualism by providing a robust English resource that complements the official curriculum. It is structured around three core themes deeply connected to Macao: Cultural Heritage and Identity, Environmental Dynamics and Urban Development, and Sustainable Community Infrastructure. Each theme includes comprehensive lesson plans, engaging project ideas, and assessment tools aligned with local attainment requirements.
The project was realized through the strong support of the local educational community. Special gratitude was extended to Bishop Stephen Lee Bun-Sang for his visionary support and to the principals and educators of the Diocese schools including Colégio de Santa Rosa de Lima – Secção Inglesa, Colégio Diocesano de São José (1)-(4), and Colégio Diocesano de São José (5) for their invaluable contributions in shaping the content. The publication was made possible by the generous sponsorship of the Diocesan Catholic Education Commission.
Key Features of the Book:
- Tailored for Macao: Content specifically designed around Macao’s culture, history, and geography.
- Supports English-Medium Instruction: Provides essential resources for educators in local and international schools.
