USJ’s Library and the Bishop Domingos Lam Centre for Research in Education (DLCRE), in support of the “Reading Month in the City of Macao 2025” campaign, organized two workshops on April 27. Combining environmental education with parent-child reading promotion, the 2 workshops attracted around 60 participants.

The “Read, Move, Create Together” eco-friendly workshop encouraged families to upcycle recyclable materials into art. Participants transformed everyday waste—such as bottles, cans, and cardboard—into unique artworks through creativity and collaboration. The activity not only promoted sustainability but also nurtured parent-child bonding through hands-on creation.

Another workshop focusing on parent-child reading skills and early childhood language development was hosted by the CLEAR team. Under the guidance of the CLEAR project instructor, two first-year Bachelor of Education students applied their professional knowledge to demonstrate effective shared-reading techniques and book-selection strategies for parents.

Ho Man Nga, shared that the workshop helped her learn how to recommend age-appropriate books based on children’s developmental stages and parents’ specific needs. Another participant, Azalea, gained practical skills in engaging children through reading activities and communicating effectively with parents—valuable experiences that will support her future career development.

Shared-reading space and books were prepared for families to immediately apply what they have learned. These hands-on workshops not only foster a culture of reading but also provide our BEd students with practical teaching opportunities.
