The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) welcomed a visit from the CRAO delegation from the Asia and Oceania Region and the China Circle on 26 March.

On the sidelines of the annual meeting of the Regional Council for Asia and Oceania (CRAO) of the Council of Portuguese Communities (CCP), the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) welcomed a visit from the CRAO delegation from the Asia and Oceania Region and the China Circle. The meeting highlighted the role of the Portuguese community in these regions and emphasised the historical and cultural ties between Portugal and the Macao Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China.
The CRAO representatives were received by USJ’s Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation, Professor Alexandre Lobo, together with members of the university, including Prof. Tânia Ribeiro Marques, Head of the Department of Languages and Culture at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, and Dr Paula Mota, Head of the International Affairs Office. At the meeting, the USJ delegation reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the internationalisation of higher education and strengthening connections with Portuguese-speaking countries.
The CRAO delegation included Dr Rui Marcelo, President of the CRAO and the China Circle; Dr Marília Coutinho, Secretary of the CRAO and the China Circle; Dr Rita Santos, Councillor of the China Circle; Dr Sara Fernandes, Councillor of the Australia Circle; and Dr Filipe Silva, Councillor of the Timor-Leste Circle. The councillors shared insights from their respective circles and explored opportunities for collaboration with USJ. Discussions focused on academic and cultural cooperation, student mobility programmes, and joint initiatives to promote Macao as a bridge between cultures, including exchange opportunities for students of Portuguese descent.
The visit concluded with a tour of USJ’s Ilha Verde campus, where the delegation learned about ongoing research projects and academic programmes that attract students from diverse backgrounds. The meeting reinforced the importance of the Portuguese community in Macao and USJ’s role in preserving and promoting the Portuguese language and culture.
According to Vice-Rector Professor Alexandre Lobo, “This visit reinforces the University’s mission to be a space for intercultural dialogue, fostering collaboration between institutions and communities, consolidating Macao’s position as a meeting point between East and West, and serving as a platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.”

USJ recebeu a Delegação do Conselho Regional da Ásia e Oceânia (CRAO) do Conselho das Comunidades Portuguesas (CCP)
À margem da reunião anual do Conselho Regional da Ásia e Oceânia (CRAO) do Conselho das Comunidades Portuguesas (CCP), a Universidade de São José (USJ) recebeu a visita da delegação do CRAO da Região da Ásia e Oceânia e do Círculo da China. O encontro destacou o papel da comunidade portuguesa nestas regiões e valorizou as relações históricas e culturais entre Portugal e a Região Administrativa Especial de Macau da República Popular da China.
Os representantes do CRAO foram recebidos pelo Vice-Reitor, Professor Alexandre Lobo, e por membros da USJ, incluindo a Professora Tânia Ribeiro Marques, Chefe do Departamento de Línguas e Cultura da Faculdade de Artes e Humanidades, e a Dra. Paula Mota, Coordenadora do Gabinete de Assuntos Internacionais, sublinharam o compromisso da instituição em promover a internacionalização do ensino superior e reforçar os laços com os países de língua portuguesa.
Os membros do CRAO, composto por três conselheiros do Círculo da China, um do Círculo da Austrália e um do Círculo de Timor-Leste, nomeadamente, Dr. Rui Marcelo, Presidente do CRAO e do Círculo da China; Dra. Marília Coutinho, Secretária do CRAO e do Círculo da China; Dra. Rita Santos, Conselheira do Círculo da China; Dra. Sara Fernandes, Conselheira do Círculo da Austrália, e Dr. Filipe Silva, Conselheiro do Círculo de Timor-Leste, partilharam experiências nos respetivos círculos de atuação e exploraram áreas de colaboração com a USJ. Foram também, explorados temas como a cooperação académica e cultural, programas de mobilidade estudantil e iniciativas conjuntas que possam contribuir para a projeção de Macau como ponte entre culturas, incluindo oportunidades de intercâmbio para estudantes lusodescendentes.
A visita concluiu-se com o percurso pelas instalações da universidade na Ilha Verde, permitindo à delegação conhecer projetos de investigação e programas académicos que têm atraído estudantes de diversas origens. O encontro reforçou a importância da comunidade portuguesa residente em Macau e o papel da USJ na preservação da língua e da cultura portuguesas.
Segundo o Vice-Reitor, Professor Alexandre Lobo, “esta visita reforça a missão da Universidade de ser um espaço de diálogo intercultural, promovendo a colaboração entre instituições e comunidades, consolidando a posição de Macau como centro de encontro entre o Oriente e o Ocidente e, igualmente, como plataforma de ligação entre a China e os Países de Língua Portuguesa.”
