Mentors and Mentees Bond Over Macanese Cuisine at Belos Tempos Restaurant
The USJ Mentorship Programme 24/25 ushered in the new year with its first gathering of 2025 on 8 February, with a unique workshop focused on Macanese cuisine, a cherished intangible heritage of Macau. Held at the renowned restaurant Belos Tempos, the event brought together eight mentors and mentees in total for a session of exploration, culinary creativity, and meaningful connections. The event was sponsored by Macao Foundation.
The workshop was led by Mrs. Ana Maria Manhão Sou, the Founder and Macanese Culture Preserver of Belos Tempos, who shared the rich history and cultural significance of Macanese dishes. As a fusion of Portuguese and Chinese culinary traditions, Macanese cuisine reflects the unique identity of Macau. Participants were guided through the preparation of traditional dishes, allowing them to experience firsthand the artistry and heritage behind the cuisine.
Following the hands-on food preparation, Ana demonstrated the final cooking techniques, showcasing the intricate steps involved in perfecting Macanese flavors. The evening culminated in a shared meal, where mentors and mentees enjoyed the dishes they prepared while engaging in lively discussions and strengthening their bonds.
This activity mirrored the essence of the USJ Mentorship Programme, emphasizing the teaching and learning experience that fosters growth and connection between mentors and mentees. Through this workshop, participants not only gained valuable knowledge about Macau’s cultural heritage but also deepened their relationships in a warm and collaborative setting.
