USJ-Kong Hon Academy for Cellular Nutrition and Health's Dr. Winnie Shum Receives an Excellence Award at the "2025 Shanghai-Hong Kong Innovation Contest"

Associate Professor from the “USJ- Kong Hon Academy for Cellular Nutrition and Health” Dr Winnie Shum, received “Excellence Award” for her project titled “Research and Development and Industrialization of Cellular Elementomic Signature Technology in Biomedical Health” at the “2025 Shanghai-Hong Kong Innovation Contest”.



Research scholar Dr. Winnie Shum, Associate Professor from the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) Kong Hon Academy for Cellular Nutrition and Health (Cellular Nutrition Academy), participated the final roadshow of the “2025 Shanghai-Hong Kong Innovation Contest” organised by the Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai on September 23rd, 2025.

Her project titled “Research and Development and Industrialization of Cellular Elementomic Signature Technology in Biomedical Health”, was submitted to the “Growth Group” of the contest by “Elementomic Analytics and Diagnostics Limited Company” a startup founded by Dr Winnie Shum, was rated as excellent. This startup was launched and incubated with the support of ShanghaiTech University and is now advancing its industrialization with the joint support of USJ and ShanghaiTech University.

The “2025 Shanghai-Hong Kong Innovation Contest” event focused on AI and biomedicine, featuring dual tracks for “Primary Group” and “Growth Group”, attracting participation from Shanghai, Hong Kong, Macau, and overseas startups, university students, and others. According to the organiser, since the program launch in May, the event received 86 applications. After rigorous evaluation, 19 projects advanced to the finals and received Excellence Awards, with 12 of them winning the “Best Innovation Award”, “Best Implementation Award”, and “Best Team Award”. The judging panel, led by authoritative figures from Shanghai and Hong Kong academia, ensured the professionalism and impartiality of the evaluation process. Sixty percent of the participating projects originated from mainland China, while the remaining forty percent came from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and overseas regions.

Prof. Winnie Shum of the Cellular Nutrition Academy and the Institute of Science and Environment (ISE) of USJ complements the platform provided by the Shanghai-Hong Kong Innovation Contest. She looks forward to continuing in-depth collaboration with ShanghaiTech University and the associated science parks, a partnership that can advance the research and development and industrialization of translational scientific projects. This partnership promotes the application of cellular elemental signature technology in biomedical diagnostics and precision medicine, contributing to the sustainable development of the research-driven health industry economy.
