USJ and Instituto Português do Oriente (IPOR) signed a MOU

The core objective of this partnership is to reinforce Portuguese teaching at USJ and to enable all its undergraduate students to proficiently use the language upon graduating.



The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) and Instituto Português do Oriente (IPOR) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 1 November 2023, to strengthen relations and to promote the Portuguese language.

The MOU was signed between the Director of the IPOR, Ms. Patrícia Ribeiro, and the Rector of USJ, Rev. Professor Stephen Morgan.

Both institutions are committed to deepening mutual relations that lead to the enhancement, in the field of the Portuguese language, of scientific research, the initial and ongoing training of specialists, the production of teaching materials of recognised scientific-pedagogical value, and quality in teaching.

Present guests at the signing ceremony were Prof. Carlos Sena Caires, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities – USJ, Prof. Tânia Ribeiro Marques, Head of the Department of Languages and Culture – USJ, Professor Nuno Rocha, Senior Lecture of the Department of Languages and Culture – USJ, Prof. Paula Costa, Head of the Portuguese Language Center – IPOR, and Prof. Maria João Rego of IPOR, and third-year USJ students studying the Portuguese Language module.
