USJ Macao visits Higher Education Institutions in Luanda, Angola, as part of the project “Building a Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries and the development of the Belt and Road Initiative – Visit to the Republic of Angola sponsored by the Macao Foundation”.

Universidade de São José Macau visita Instituições de Ensino Superior em Luanda, Angola
No âmbito do projeto “Construção de uma Plataforma entre a China e os Países de Língua Portuguesa e o desenvolvimento da Iniciativa Uma Faixa, Uma Rota” – Visita à República de Angola, apoiado pela Fundação Macau, que visa não só reforçar os laços de amizade e o estreitamento da cooperação no domínio da educação e da formação de futuros talentos, uma delegação da Universidade de São José de Macau, composta pelo Vice-Reitor para a Internacionalização e Assuntos Académicos, Prof. Doutor Álvaro Barbosa, o Vice-Reitor para a Investigação Académica e Inovação, Prof. Doutor Alexandre Lobo, Chefe da Delegação do USJ Macau em Portugal, Dr Francisco Peixoto, e a Chefe do Gabinete de Assuntos Internacionais, Dra. Ana Paula Mota, visitou a República de Angola de 10 a 15 de dezembro de 2024.
A delegação da Universidade de São José Macau visitou várias Instituições de Ensino superior em Luanda, Angola, designadamente, a Universidade Católica de Angola (UCAN), a Universidade Gregório Semedo (UGS), a Universidade Agostinho Neto (UAN) e o Instituto Superior Politécnico Alvorecer da Juventude (ISPAJ).
Visita à Universidade Católica de Angola (UCAN)
(Encontro com a Reitora da UCAN, Reverenda Irmã Doutora Maria da Assunção e a sua equipa)
Universidade Católica de Angola (UCAN), instituição congénere da USJ Macau é a única instituição de ensino superior da igreja Católica em Angola, tendo a USJ Macau e a UCAN assinado um Memorando de Entendimento em Maio de 2021.
No âmbito da visita à UCAN, delegação da USJ Macau, reuniu-se com a Magnífica Reitora, Reverenda Irmã Doutora Maria da Assunção e a sua equipa Reitoral, Diretores de Faculdades, Presidentes de Institutos e o Diretor do Gabinete de Intercâmbio e Relações Internacionais entre outros.
Durante o encontro, tiverem a oportunidade de revisitar as linhas de colaboração definidas no ME e acordaram ações e atividades académicas concretas de cooperação, bem como a efetivação prática das mesmas. As partes recordaram que estas ações e atividades académicas têm como objetivo o reforço dos planos estratégicos de internacionalização académica de ambas as instituições.
Ainda, durante a visita a delegação da USJ Macau participou na Cerimónia Solene de Atribuição do Título de Doutor Honoris Causa ao Professor Manuel José Alves da Rocha, “Dirige presentemente o Centro de Estudos e Investigação Científica (CEIC) da Universidade Católica de Angola, criado em 2002, pioneiro em Angola no domínio da investigação em ciências humanas. O CEIC produz diversos relatórios periódicos, dos quais se destaca o Relatório Económico de Angola (anual),” integrada nas atividades de celebração do 25.o Aniversário da UCAN.

Visita à Universidade Agostinho Neto (UAN)
(Encontro com o Reitor da UAN, Prof Doutor Pedro Magalhães e membros da sua equipa)
Durante a visita à Universidade Agostinho Neto (UAN), a maior e a mais antiga universidade da República de Angola, uma referência no ensino superior em Angola, a delegação da USJ Macau reuniu-se com o Magnífico Reitor, Prof. Doutor Pedro Magalhães e alguns membros da sua equipa. O Reitor da UAN manifestou interesse na promoção do intercâmbio e cooperação académica com instituições de Ensino Superior da Região Administrativa Especial de Macau da República Popular da China, em particular com a USJ Macau. Foram abordadas várias áreas de interesse comum, ficando em aberto a possibilidade de assinatura de um Memorando de Entendimento de cooperação académica, prevendo a viabilização da mobilidade de docentes e discentes, projetos de investigação conjunta nas áreas das ciências ambientais, a inovação e o empreendedorismo.

Visita à Universidade Gregório Semedo (UGS)
(Encontro com o Reitor da UGS, Prof Doutor Wilfredo Falcón Urquiaga e membros da sua equipa)
A delegação da USJ Macau, encontrou-se com o Magnífico Reitor da UGS, Prof Doutor Wilfredo Falcón Urquiaga e membros da sua equipa Reitoral, Diretores de várias Faculdades, o Secretrário Gera da UGS e o Diretor do Gabinete de Intercâmbio e Relações Internacionais, entre outros. A relação de amizade entre a USJ Macau e a UGS remonta aos anos de 2018. Ambas as universidades tiveram a oportunidade de definir áreas académicas de interesse comum para colaboração futura.
A visita culminou com a assinatura de um Memorando de Entendimento protagonizado pelo Reitor da UGS, Prof Doutor Wilfredo Falcón Urquiaga e o Vice-Rector para a Internacionalização e Assuntos Académicos, Prof. Doutor Álvaro Barbosa, prevendo, entre outras ações, o intercâmbio de conhecimentos, realização de atividades conjuntas no âmbito académico, científico, técnico e cultural, mobilidade académica, desenvolvimento de projetos de pesquisa conjunta e inovação e empreendedorismo.

Visita ao Instituto Superior Politécnico Alvorecer da Juventude (ISPAJ)
(Encontro com o Presidente do ISPAJ, Prof Doutor Albertino Candimba Sebastião e membros da sua equipa)
A delegação da USJ Macau, encontrou-se com o Presidente do ISPAJ e alguns membros da sua equipa. Os representantes de ambas as instituições tiveram a oportunidade de discutir e definir áreas académicas de interesse comum, bem como projetos de capacitação e inovação, empreendedorismo, mobilidade académica, projetos de pesquisa conjunta.
Do encontro, resultou a assinatura de um Memorando de Entendimento protagonizado pelo Presidente do ISPAJ, Prof. Doutor Albertino Candimba Sebastião e o Vice-Reitor da USJ Macau para a Investigação Académica e Inovação Prof. Doutor Alexandre Lobo, delineando os projetos académicos para colaboração futura entre ambas as instituições.
O ISPAJ pertence ao GRUPO PITRUCA, maior grupo empresarial de ensino privado em Angola, tem desde o ensino infantil ao Ensino Superior. Com 5 unidades de ensino secundário, médio e primário em Luanda, 3 em Benguela, 2 no Lobito, 1 no Zaire e 1 em Portugal e um único Instituto Superior Politécnico em Luanda com 8.480 estudantes.

No cômputo geral as visitas foram bastante positivas, permitindo partilhas de experiências e boas práticas entre os participantes visando o desenvolvimento sustentável do Ensino superior em Angola e na Região Administrativa Especial de Macau, China nas várias áreas de interesse comum.
Por último, os Vice-Reitores da USJ Macau enalteceram que Macau tem um papel importante como plataforma para cooperação entre a China e os Países de Língua Portuguesa, e reafirmaram o posicionamento, o carácter da USJ Macau, as similaridades históricas existentes entre as instituições, o que reforça ainda mais a missão da USJ Macau na aproximação e desenvolvimento de parcerias académicas junto de Instituições de Ensino Superior dos Países de Língua Portuguesa, neste caso concreto com instituições de Ensino Superior Angolanas.

University of Saint Joseph Macao visits Higher Education Institutions in Luanda, Angola
As part of the project “Building a Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries and the development of the Belt and Road Initiative – Visit to the Republic of Angola sponsored by the Macao Foundation”, which aims not only to strengthen the bonds of friendship between these nations but also to foster cooperation in the field of education and the training of future talents, a delegation of the University of Saint Joseph Macau visited the Republic of Angola from 10 to 15 December 2024. The delegation includes Prof. Dr Álvaro Barbosa, Vice-Rector for Internationalisation and Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr Alexandre Lobo, Vice-Rector for Academic Research and Innovation, Mr Francisco Peixoto, Head of the USJ Macao Delegation in Portugal and Mrs Ana Paula Mota, Head of the International Affairs Office.
Visit to the Catholic University of Angola (UCAN)
Universidade Católica de Angola (UCAN), a sister institution of USJ Macao, is the only higher education institution of the Catholic Church in Angola, and in May 2021, USJ Macao signed a Memorandum of Understanding with UCAN.
As part of the visit to UCAN, USJ Macao’s delegation met with the Rector, Reverend Sister Maria da Assunção and her team of Vice-rectors, Directors of Faculties, Presidents of Institutes and the Director of the Office of Exchange and International Relations, among others.
During the meeting, they had the opportunity to revisit the lines of collaboration defined in the MoU and agreed on concrete academic cooperation actions and activities, as well as their practical implementation. The parties recalled that these academic actions and activities are aimed at strengthening the strategic academic internationalisation plans of both institutions.
During the visit, the USJ Macao delegation also took part in the Doctor Honoris Causa Award Ceremony of Professor Manuel José Alves da Rocha, who “currently heads the Centre for Studies and Scientific Research (CEIC) of the Catholic University of Angola, created in 2002, a pioneer in Angola in the field of human sciences research. The CEIC produces various periodic reports, including the annual Angola Economic Report,” as part of UCAN’s 25th anniversary celebrations. Visit to the University of Agostinho Neto (UAN)
During the visit to the University of Agostinho Neto (UAN), the largest and oldest university in the Republic of Angola, a benchmark in higher education in Angola, the USJ Macao delegation met with the Rector, Prof Pedro Magalhães and some members of his team. The UAN Rector expressed interest in promoting academic exchange and co-operation with higher education institutions in the Macao Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China, particularly with USJ Macao. Various areas of common interest were discussed, with the possibility of signing a Memorandum of Understanding on academic co-operation, focusing on further development of areas such as the mobility of teachers and students, joint research projects in the areas of environmental sciences, innovation and entrepreneurship.

Visit to the University of Gregório Semedo (UGS)
The delegation of USJ Macao met with the Rector of the UGS, Prof Wilfredo Falcón Urquiaga and members of the Rectoral team, Directors of various Faculties, the Secretary General of the UGS and the Director of the Exchange and International Relations Office, among others. The friendly relationship between USJ Macao and UGS dates of 2018. Both universities had the opportunity to define academic areas of common interest for future collaboration.
The visit culminated with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding led by the Rector of the UGS, Prof. Dr. Wilfredo Falcón Urquiaga and the Vice-Rector for Internationalisation and Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Álvaro Barbosa, providing, among other actions, the exchange of knowledge, joint academic, scientific, technical and cultural activities, academic mobility, the development of joint research projects and innovation and entrepreneurship.

Visit to the Instituto Superior Politécnico Alvorecer da Juventude (ISPAJ)
The delegation from USJ Macao met with the President of ISPAJ and his team members. The representatives of both institutions had the opportunity to discuss and define academic areas of common interest, as well as capacity building and innovation projects, entrepreneurship, academic mobility and joint research projects.
The meeting resulted in signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by ISPAJ President Prof Albertino Candimba Sebastião and USJ Macao Vice-Rector for Academic Research and Innovation Prof Alexandre Lobo, the MoU outlines academic projects for future collaboration between the two institutions.
ISPAJ belongs to GRUPO PITRUCA, the largest private education business group in Angola, and has everything from nursery to higher education, with five secondary, middle and primary school units in Luanda, three in Benguela, two in Lobito, one in Zaire and one in Portugal and a single Higher Polytechnic Institute in Luanda with 8,480 students.

Overall, the visits were very positive, allowing the participants to share experiences and good practices with a view to the sustainable development of higher education in Angola and the Macau Special Administrative Region, China, in the various areas of common interest.
Finally, the Vice-Rectors of USJ Macao emphasised that Macao plays an important role as the platform for cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries and reaffirmed USJ Macao’s position, character and the historical similarities between the institutions, which further strengthens USJ Macao’s mission to bring together and develop academic partnerships with higher education institutions in Portuguese-speaking countries, in this case with Angolan higher education institutions.
