Prof. Jana Ho, Assistant Professor at the School of Education of USJ Macao, participated in the 4th International Symposium on Inclusive Education Development from 24-25 June, 2025. At the Parallel Forum “Empowering Children’s Subjectivity through Artificial Intelligence,” she delivered a presentation entitled “Designing Effective Online Assessments for Learning and Reading: Innovations in Dyslexia Screening.”
Her presentation focused on individuals with dyslexia and introduced innovative practices in dyslexia screening — specifically, online assessment. Prof. Ho pointed out that online assessment offers an innovative solution for early screening, with advantages such as reduced costs, easier staff training, and no need for transportation. She also explained the content of the assessment tasks and the principles that should be followed when designing reliable and effective online assessments. Finally, she emphasized the important role of parents in the online assessment process, noting that parents should assist children in resolving technical issues encountered during assessments, but should avoid answering questions on their behalf or suggesting correct answers.
This symposium was hosted by the Central China Normal University (CCNU) in Wuhan, China. The symposium aimed to explore in depth the development of inclusive education materials and pathways for enhancing children’s subjectivity, to collaboratively plan new directions for the substantive development of inclusive education, and to provide innovative ideas for promoting fairer and higher-quality education for children with special needs.
