The Institute of Science and Environment (ISE) at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) recently participated in the Third International Conference on Biodiversity, Ecology, and Conservation of Marine Ecosystems (BECoME 2025), held from 19 23 August, at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK).
Organised and chaired by Professor Kenneth M.Y. Leung (CityUHK), this prestigious conference brought together leading experts to discuss critical topics including marine biodiversity, innovative ecological solutions, pollution impacts, climate change, and sustainable fisheries management.

The delegation, led by Prof. Karen Tagulao, actively engaged in cutting-edge sessions, thematic workshops, and an inspiring eco-shoreline field trip, gaining valuable knowledge on emerging research techniques, biodiversity monitoring, and nature-based solutions for coastal resilience.

The team presented their research on using eDNA to assess wetland biodiversity, with the oral presentation delivered by Master Student Mikael Leong. The team was joined by Yolanda Lau and Darwi Htoo, who also took part in the exchanges. This research is part of the output from the Drop by Drop Project by ISE supported by WASH Foundation through funding from Sands Eco360.
ISE is committed to marine conservation, ecological restoration and sustainability education in the region, and these experiences have strengthened that commitment.
