The visit served to deepen the robust partnership between the two institutions, offering GPU students an invaluable insight into Macao’s unique academic and business landscape.

The Faculty of Business and Law (FBL) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) was delighted to host a delegation of teachers and students from the College of Finance and Economics of Guangzhou Polytechnic University (GPU) from 22 to 24 October for an in-depth academic and cultural exchange. The visit served to deepen the robust partnership between the two institutions, offering GPU students an invaluable insight into Macao’s unique academic and business landscape.

The delegation was warmly welcomed upon their arrival at the Ilha Verde Campus by Prof. Florence Lei of the FBL and student ambassadors from the USJ Business Club, who led an engaging campus tour.

The carefully curated programme combined academic rigour with cultural immersion. The FBL organised a series of lectures designed to highlight key industries in Macao and the Greater Bay Area. GPU delegates attended sessions led by Prof. Florence Lei on International Trade, Mr. Anthony Lam on Hotel Management, Prof. Alessandro Lampo on AI, and Prof. Ângelo Rafael on International Law, with a focus on the practical applications of these fields in the regional business environment.

Following the academic sessions, the delegation explored Macao’s rich cultural tapestry through a tour of iconic heritage sites, led by Prof. Jenny Phillips, Dean of the FBL, and Prof. Michael Ha.

The final day of the visit was dedicated to experiential learning at the Macao International Trade & Investment Fair (MIF). Guided by Prof. Florence Lei, the students saw the principles of international trade in action, observing firsthand Macao’s role as a dynamic platform for global business and its key trading partners. The trip concluded on a flavorful note with a traditional Portuguese lunch at the Taipa Village, during which Prof. Jenny Phillips explained the Macau’s unique gastronomy culture.

This successful visit marks another milestone in the partnership between USJ-FBL and GPU. Since becoming partner institutions, both universities have maintained consistent exchanges. These include GPU’s previous visits to USJ in May 2021 and April 2023, as well as reciprocal visits to GPU by the USJ Business Club in December 2023  and by USJ delegates in September 2025. This ongoing dialogue underscores a shared commitment to fostering cross-border academic cooperation and providing students with a truly global perspective.
