The Alumni Association of University of Saint Joseph (AAUSJ) and the University of Saint Joseph Alumni Sports Association (USJASA) held their annual general assembly meeting on 12 March 2026, completing the triennial leadership election. The newly elected leadership team has officially taken office, marking a new chapter in the development of alumni affairs. The meeting aimed to unite alumni strength, outline future directions for the associations, and continue efforts to promote the development of both AAUSJ and USJASA, with plans to organize more diverse activities to strengthen ties and foster a sense of belonging among alumni.

During the election, a new team was selected. Ms. Evonne Chiu, the newly elected president of the General Assembly for both associations as well as the founding president of AAUSJ, delivered a speech outlining the future blueprint. She emphasized that the new team is committed to developing more resources to organize various activities covering social, academic, and sport events, aiming to enrich alumni social life while increasing support and funding for current students’ activities and actively striving for greater benefits for AAUSJ members. In terms of students’ career and social development, Ms. Chiu noted that AAUSJ will continue to serve as a bridge between the university, students, and society, paving the way for younger alumni’s future development through experience sharing and resource networking. Regarding the increased enrollment of Mainland Chinese students, she believes this is crucial for USJ’s overall development. Looking back at the university’s years of efforts to secure enrollment quotas from Mainland China, she expressed hope that the newly gained opportunity for expanded enrollment would serve as a powerful impetus, allowing more people to know USJ and enhance the university’s visibility and academic reputation. She specifically mentioned that an excellent faculty is a key factor in boosting the university’s competitiveness. “As members of the AAUSJ, we all share the responsibility to tell the good USJ story, actively promote our alma mater, and hope to contribute even more to its long-term development.”

The meeting then proceeded to an introduction of the university’s current development, during which Dr. Teresa Loong, Vice-Rector for Student Life, was invited to share the latest updates with the alumni. Dr. Loong highlighted USJ’s internationalisation process and its expanding global cooperation network, including Professor Stephen Morgan, Rector of USJ, being elected as the first Vice President of the Asia-Pacific University Association (AUAP) and simultaneously serving as Vice President of the Executive Committee of the International Federation of Catholic Universities (IFCU), fully demonstrating USJ’s leadership position in the international higher education arena. Leveraging Macao’s unique role as a commercial and trade cooperation platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, USJ actively expands exchanges and cooperation with higher education institutions in Portuguese-speaking countries and Europe, contributing to the development of Macau as an international talent cultivation base. In terms of student international exchanges, she cited the example of architecture students traveling to the Venice Biennale of Architecture, where they presented their design works to visitors at the exhibition, showcasing the professional competence and global perspective of USJ students. Dr. Loong announced to the alumni the expansion of USJ’s student enrollment from mainland China and revealed that the university is actively strengthening ties with mainland universities and institutions, signing various cooperation agreements. She expressed hope that AAUSJ would fully leverage its networking functions to assist the university in promoting USJ more effectively. She also encourages alumni to return to university for further studies, enhancing their personal competitiveness and achieving lifelong learning. Dr. Loong reiterated that alumni and students are important pillars of the university’s development and urged alumni to more actively support USJ’s various initiatives.

The evening concluded on a warm and cordial note. To express gratitude for the alumni’s continuous support for their alma mater and to wish the new leadership teams of the AAUSJ and USJASA every success, AAUSJ and the Office for Student and Alumni Affairs (OSAA) specially prepared a Chinese knot craft, symbolizing good fortune and unity, as a gift for every alumnus. The gesture signified the hope that the university, AAUSJ and USJASA would continue to flourish, with all members united to welcome more auspicious and fruitful moments together.
