On Saturday, 23rd of April, 2022, the University of Saint Joseph's Library, the Domingos Lam Research Center in Education (DLRCE), and the Macau Institute of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Relics (MICRCR) collaborated to host the "Chillax Book Cafe" activity at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) Ilha Verde campus. Over 200 participants joined the event. Handcraft paper making workshops, student coffee sales, co-reading spaces for youngsters, and co-reading demonstration workshops were among the beneficial activities that encouraged residents to develop their personal interest in reading and to pass on the reading habit to the next generation.
This programme is in response to the April 23 events for "World Book Day," "Macao Library Week 2022," and "April 23 Reading Together." There are three sections to the activities. The first portion is a handcraft paper making workshop by the MICRCR, where residents may see how traditional paper is made and how old-fashioned printing processes are used. The second component is children's Chinese language instruction. The tutors from DLRCE lead parents and children in reading picture books and sharing practical skills. The goal is to offer a space for parents and children to work together to develop children's language abilities and parent-child relationships via parent-child reading. The third section asks our student coffee club to host coffee bazaars for participants, not only to get practical experience but also to give to charity. There is also a book-blanking and reading area in the same location, so residents may enjoy the enjoyment of selling coffee and reading at the "Chillax Book Café," fostering citizens' reading habits and breaking down the city's reading boundaries via diverse activities.
For enquiries, please contact Ms Lei of USJ Library (+853 85925639).

A group of staff members from Sheraton Grand Macao & The St. Regis Macao Hotel and Sands China received a guided tour by Prof. Karen Tagulao and researchers of the University of Saint Joseph's Institute of Science and Environment (USJ/ISE) at the Ecological Zone II, a 40-hectare mangrove forest in Taipa-Coloane coastline, on the afternoon of April 21, 2022.
A brief introduction about the conservation area's mangrove forest and the resting place for many local and migratory birds was given before the tour commenced, encouraging the participants to explore the area with curiosity and enthusiasm.
During the tour, USJ/ISE research team members Ms. Yolanda Lau and Mr. Marco Lao, explained the importance of mangroves for climate change mitigation and adaptation, specifically for coastal protection, carbon capture and storage. Additionally, it offers water pollution remediation, plastic pollution entrapment, and the promotion of local biodiversity, which is all-important for marine life.
The tour ended successfully at the Southside of Ecozone II, where participants witnessed local and migratory birds in their natural habitats. Everyone understood the value of the coastal wetland, how it benefits in countless ways, and why it is crucial to protect it.
USJ/ISE is actively promoting field visits throughout the years to increase community engagement and awareness of the local ecosystem, especially the mangrove forest, which is considered "Macao's Coastal Treasure”. This year’s activities were carried out within the context of the project, CTW/2021 “Wetland ecosystems as a nature-based solution for a climate change mitigation and adaptation in Macao” with a grant from Sands ECO360’s Drop by Drop Project by Sands and Clean the World Foundation.
For inquiries about the project, please contact karentagulao@usj.edu.mo or ise@usj.edu.mo.

Fulfilling and realising the country's long-term stability, satisfying the people's yearning for a better life, and maintaining national security are important obligations of the citizens of Macao. To deepen the faculty, staff, students and alumni's understanding of China's national security and enhance their sense of belonging to the motherland, the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) organised a group visit, led by the USJ Administrator Dr. Alejandro Salcedo, to the 2022 "National Security Education Exhibition" on April 20, 2022.
The exhibition was held at Forum Macao and divided into six parts, exhibiting many selected photos and text descriptions related to the implementation of national policies by the country and the Macao SAR government in recent years. It focuses on demonstrating that under the guidance of the overall national security concept, the country has coordinated development and security, calmly responded to changes throughout the century and during times of pandemic, and promoted a series of outstanding achievements in national security in the new era. The forward-looking measures and achievements allow the citizens of Macao to review the country's development process and Macao in the past year to strengthen the overall national security concept.
A collection of rare and precious national historical fragments and relics were also showcased in the format of film for the viewers to visualise the achievements of national security in the new era.

On April 19th, 2022, a delegation of University of Saint Joseph (USJ) Year 2 and Year 3 Bachelor of Business Administration students visited the Lisboeta Hotel as part of their learning experience. The delegation was led by Prof. Alessandro Lampo and Senior Lecturer Mr. Emil Marques from the Faculty of Business and Law (FBL).
USJ continues a strong tradition of experiential learning by giving students a first-hand experience within their industry and field of study. During this visit, students learned about the operations of the various facilities within the newly inaugurated hotel.
This facilitation of student learning was made possible by the generous offer of the Lisboeta Hotel Retail Marketing Manager, Mr. Boris Wong, and Assistant Sales Manager Ms. Mina Mak.
The in-depth tour given by Assistant Public Relations Manager Ms. Haydee Wong included a comprehensive presentation of the overall operations and positioning of the overall integrated resort; this included the different themes of the resort, such as the Casa de Amigo – presented by Line Friends, Maison L’ Occitane, and the Lisboeta rooms. In addition, the retail area called the “H 853” Fun Factory was showcased with the introduction of the family fun concept that includes an IMAX and MX4D theatres, Zipcity, GoAirborne, and others.
The students were impressed and excited about the unique positioning of the Lisboeta Hotel Macau which pays special homage to the collective memory of landmarks in Macau. These include iconic buildings such as the Macau Palace, the Facades of New Central Hotel, and a street dedicated to old Macau.
At the end of the tour, two lucky students were given a chance to experience the most exciting skydiving venue in Macau, GoAirborne. This was also made possible with the generous support of Ms. Roni Wong, Associate Director of Sales at GoAirborne Macau.
USJ is a student-centric university that collaborates with the industries and community to bring the best educational experiences to the students and alumni.
The delegation was also joined by Prof. Florence Lei of FBL, Director of the Office for Student and Alumni Affairs of USJ, Ms. Teresa Loong, and her team members.

ABOUT THE TALK:
DSEDJ has been strengthening students’ counselling and support for parents of students with special educational needs since the academic year of 2016. Students with Special Education Needs (SEN) refer to those who need special educational support due to learning or adjustment difficulties, including specific learning difficulties, speech and language impairment, intellectual disability and autism spectrum disorder. It is important to support their individual differences in order to create an inclusive society.
Some of the schools in Macau have been doing very well in inclusive education, and Macau Anglican College (MAC) is one of them. Principal Robert Alexander will be presenting the background of his school in this public lecture. In addition, the educational approach and philosophy that MAC is promoting, as well as introducing the inclusive education at MAC. His sharing about the challenges and aspirations of fostering inclusive education will be a highlight in this talk.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Mr. Robert Alexander, Principal of Macau Anglican College
Mr. Robert Alexander graduated from the University of the Western Cape (UWC) with a BA degree, Higher Diploma in Education (HDE) and a B. ED degree. He obtained a Diploma in Special Ed. and his Honors and Master degrees in Education Management from the University of South Africa (UNISA).
He started his teaching career in 1990 as a primary school teacher in South Africa. Over the years he progressed to become the Deputy Principal of a primary school before relocating to Atlanta, Georgia (USA) in 2001 on a three-year teacher exchange program as a Middle School Language Arts teacher.
On his return to Cape Town in 2004, he accepted the position as Head of Department for Intermediate Phase at St. Joseph's Marist College.
In August 2005 he joined Macau Anglican College (MAC) as a primary teacher and MAC has become home after 17 years. After a few years of teaching he was promoted to a leadership position, then assistant principal and now serving his 6th year as principal of MAC.

ABOUT THE SERIES:
Can we know that God exists? Is there evidence for God? Is there a conflict between science and religion? What constitutes good evidence for a religious claim? This lecture series explores answers to these questions.
ABOUT THE TALK:
History is a discipline in which the political, philosophical, and religious opinions of historians very often influence their conclusions more than the historical data. Objectivity in the study of Jesus of Nazareth is extremely rare. In this lecture, Dr. Mike Licona discusses facts about Jesus’ fate for which the supporting data are so strong that a heterogeneous consensus of scholars grant them as ‘facts.’ He then discusses where he thinks the facts point.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Dr. Licona
Dr. Licona is associate professor of theology at Houston Baptist University, is a member of the Society For New Testament Studies, and is the author of numerous books.
