USJ Macao is proud to announce the Macao Premiere screening of a documentary featuring the acclaimed Japanese Architect and Scholar Koji Yagi on 9th May, 2025.
The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) Macao is proud to announce the Macao Premiere screening of a documentary featuring the acclaimed Japanese Architect and Scholar Koji Yagi.
The Macao Premiere documentary screening will take place on the 9 May 2025 and it will bring the audience into a journey through the life and work of architect Yagi, revealing insights about his educational methodology, his design innovation process, and his engagement with Macau through the lens of the University of Saint Joseph’s Ilha Verde Campus development.
Witnessing Yagi’s work with his students inspires the exploration of intercultural engagement as an operation model for universities, in a time of profound intellectual and multicultural change.
The documentary was produced by the USJ Faculty of Arts and Humanities in collaboration with Architect and Scholar Thomas Daniell, a leading expert in Japanese architectural theory and former Head of the Architecture Department at USJ.
Japanese Architect and Scholar Koji Yagi will be in attendance at the Macao’s Premiere. The documentary has a duration of 1h10m.

Synopsis:
Twenty years ago a group of architecture students in Tokyo designed a new university campus under the mentorship of architect Koji Yagi, for the students of the former Portuguese concession of Macao in China.
Yagi traveled back to Macao to see how his work came to life, while in Tokyo his former students reunited to celebrate his achievements. This documentary explores the idea of intercultural engagement in universities, and the importance of architect Koji Yagi in promoting a platform for intellectual and multicultural human development.
