The Faculty of Religious Studies and Philosophy is hosting a Public Lecture by Prof. Dr. Jerzy Skrabania, SVD, titled “Ars Sacra Pekinensis” on Monday, 23 March, from 6:30-8PM, at the Conference Room – USJ Seminary Campus.



About the Talk:

The “Ars Sacra Pekinesis” or “Christian Art of Peking” is a collection of paintings in the Chinese style with Christian motifs; they were created in Beijing between 1930 and 1950 by Chinese painters associated with the Fu Jen Catholic University Art Academy. This contribution sketches the history of this particular kind of art and highlights its relevance to the missionary endeavor of the Society of the Divine Word (SVD) in China.

About the Speaker:

Jerzy Skrabania, SVD (Prof. Dr.), born 1957, is a church historian and has been a member of the Society of the Divine Word (SVD) since 1979. He is a lecturer in church history at the Cologne University of Catholic Theology (khkt – St. Augustin) and was the long-time director of the Museum – House of Peoples and Cultures – in Sankt Augustin / Bonn, Germany.
