The visit encompassed participation in an international conference, academic exchange meetings, and the signing of a cooperation agreement.
From 23 to 26 June 2026, a delegation from the School of Education (SED) at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ), led by the Dean Prof. Isabel Tchiang, visited Central China Normal University (CCNU) in Wuhan, Hubei, with support from the Macao Foundation. The visit encompassed participation in an international conference, academic exchange meetings, and the signing of a cooperation agreement.

The delegation attended the 5th International Symposium on Inclusive Education Development, held at CCNU under the theme “Deepening Assessment Reform and Advancing Quality Inclusive Education.” The symposium brought together scholars from China, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and Russia to share the latest research and practice in inclusive education. USJ participated as the representative of Macao’s inclusive education community. During the symposium, Prof. Isabel Tchiang chaired the parallel session on “Reconstructing Standards and Innovating Pathways in Inclusive Education Assessment,” while Prof. Jana Ho presented at the parallel session on “Comprehensive Student Assessment and Support Systems for Diverse Learners.”

Following the symposium, the delegation met with the CCNU Faculty of Education for an academic exchange, during which both sides introduced their respective faculties and explored potential collaboration in areas including joint postgraduate programmes, undergraduate summer exchange visits, and mutual faculty appointments. Both parties agreed that there is considerable scope for cooperation in teacher education and committed to developing a concrete plan to bring these discussions to fruition.

During the visit, the USJ’s School of Education signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the National Engineering Research Center for Educational Big Data (NERCEBD) at CCNU, a leading national research platform dedicated to educational big data, artificial intelligence in education, and digital learning. Under the MOA, both parties will collaborate on educational digitalization and big data applications, with a focus on advancing research into digital literacy assessment for teachers and students. Collaboration will take place through scholar exchanges, joint research, academic lectures, seminars, and postgraduate research participation.

Following the signing ceremony, Prof. Isabel Tchiang delivered a public lecture to postgraduate students, sharing insights on student experiences and reflections on artificial intelligence and digital learning in Macao’s higher education context. Subsequently, Prof. Hao Wu acted as a focal point to discuss the implementation of the digital literacy assessment research and to outline plans for future research activities with the NERCEBD team.

Prof. Isabel Tchiang noted that the visit has strengthened USJ’s ties with CCNU across academic research, faculty development, and curriculum collaboration, and reflects SED’s commitment to engaging with national education development priorities. The SED will continue to expand its local, mainland, and international networks, foster greater alignment between Macao’s inclusive education sector and global trends, and enhance its influence in regional education research and practice.
