The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) signed a Master’s Degree Student Recruitment Cooperation Agreement with Jiangsu Second Normal University on 7 June 2026. The two institutions reached a consensus across multiple areas, including joint talent cultivation, collaborative academic research, faculty and student exchanges, and the establishment of academic progression pathways for students, collectively promoting the coordinated development of higher education between Jiangsu and Macao.

The signing ceremony was held at Jiangsu Second Normal University. The USJ delegation was led by the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Dr Teresa Loong, alongside David Yang, Assistant Head of the Domestic Student Recruitment Office. Ao Pak Loi, Standing Committee Member of the Guizhou Provincial CPPCC and President of the Macau Guizhou Association Federation, also accompanied the delegation. Jiangsu Second Normal University warmly received the visitors, with representatives including President Xu Guohua, Vice President Zhao Yurong, as well as department heads from the United Front Work Department (UFWD) of the Party Committee, the Student Affairs Office, the Admissions and Career Office, and the International Cooperation and Exchange Office.

In her speech, Dr Teresa Loong outlined USJ’s educational positioning, distinctive academic disciplines, international resources, and the strengths of its postgraduate programmes. She noted that the educational resources of Jiangsu and Macao are highly complementary, offering broad prospects for cooperation, and expressed her hope that this agreement would enable both universities to deepen practical cooperation in talent cultivation and academic innovation. President Xu Guohua also shared the educational achievements and strategic directions of Jiangsu Second Normal University, expressing great confidence in the future cooperation between the two institutions.

President Ao Pak Loi stated in his speech that deepening educational cooperation between universities in Jiangsu and Macao is conducive to promoting cultural and educational integration and openness between the two regions. He expressed his hope that the two universities would leverage their institutional platforms to establish regular exchange mechanisms, deepen resource sharing and mutual cultural learning, and create a model for regional inter-institutional collaboration.

During the meeting, the two parties engaged in in-depth discussions on topics including joint talent cultivation, regular faculty and student exchanges, innovative academic research, the establishment of student progression pathways, and the sharing of high-quality educational resources. On this basis, they formally signed the inter-institutional cooperation agreement, laying a solid foundation for ongoing, regular collaboration.

This signing further broadens the channels for exchange and cooperation between USJ and universities in Jiangsu. USJ will continue to leverage Macao’s advantages as a platform for China and Portuguese-speaking countries and as an international education hub, deepening its engagement with mainland institutions to jointly cultivate high-quality talent with international perspectives and professional competence.

This cooperation marks the expansion of USJ’s partner network with mainland institutions and puts into practice the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
