From 5 to 6 February, USJ hosted a series of Chinese New Year events, allowing students to experience and understand the traditional customs of the Chinese New Year.
As the Chinese New Year is drawing near, the Office for Student and Alumni Affairs (OSAA) of USJ organised the 2026 Celebratory Chinese New Year Events from 5 to 6 February. The activities included “Chinese New Year Cultural Exhibition and Quiz Game”, “Tanghulu Candied Workshop”, “Chinese Calligraphy and Traditional Rubbing Experience”, “Chinese New Year Delicacies Tasting” etc. USJ staff and students celebrated the event together, creating a lively atmosphere.
The Chinese New Year Cultural Exhibition and Quiz Game kicked off on 28 January 2026 across the three campuses: Ilha Verde Campus, Seminary Campus and Nape Campus. The event is aimed to deepen students’ understanding of Chinese New Year customs and their cultural significance through cultural exhibitions and quiz games, enhancing the interest of international students in learning extracurricular knowledge.
The “Calligraphy and Rubbing Experience,” “Tanghulu Candied Workshop,” and “Traditional New Year Food Tasting Session” were held from February 5th to 6th. These activities allowed USJ staff members and students to experience the art of Chinese calligraphy while showcasing the unique Chinese culture to international students from around the world. Through introducing and tasting traditional New Year snacks such as taro cake and crispy dumplings, the activities promoted the richness and charm of the Chinese New Year, fostering cross-cultural exchange and interaction.
Meanwhile, in order to raise public awareness of sustainable development, OSAA also designed the “USJ Pet Family Series Spring Couplets.” This initiative promotes the conservation of animals and the prevention of abandonment, helping students understand that responsible pet ownership and the protection of endangered species are key components linking ecosystem health, social responsibility, and ethical practice. Every act of rejecting abandonment and supporting conservation is a concrete contribution to sustainable development and the collective well-being of the planet, thereby deepening the belief that students can start with themselves to become guardians of ecological sustainability.

Special thanks to Vegetarian Souvenir as the supporting unit for offering holiday gifts and blessings to the students. Here we wish all USJ Staff Members and students a Happy Chinese New Year full of vigor and vitality!
