USJ and Macau Spin Incubator: Connecting Ideas to Create Impact during the 929 Challenge 2025

As co-organizer, the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) and the Macau Spin Incubator were represented in Mentorship, Judging and Plenary Sessions.



The 929 Challenge, a very important startup competition in Macao, served as the perfect platform to showcase the synergy between University and Industry. With a new format of a 2-days event, the event was held at the Macau Forum on the 29th of November, with the Startup Competition Finals on the 30th of November . This is the 5th edition of this event dedicated to bridging Chinese and Portuguese-speaking innovators. 

As co-organizer, the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) and the Macau Spin Incubator were represented as in the Mentorship, Judging and Plenary Sessions. Leading the delegation were Professor Alexandre Lobo, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation. Professor Emil Marques, Head of Executive Training represented USJ and Macau Spin in the Startup Competition Finals Opening Ceremony. In addition, Professor Anthony Lam from the Faculty of Business and Law also joined as a speaker during the 929 Summit.

Professor Lobo participation highlighted a core topic of the summit: “Unlocking the Potential of University-Science Park” collaboration. He shared his thoughts during the main stage panel, discussing strategies to enhance the research and entrepreneurial pipeline between academic institutions and science parks, highlighting the creation of the Macau Science Park in the near future. 

Through the Macau Spin Incubator, USJ works in bridging the academic world with the market, fostering a dynamic ecosystem where student and faculty innovations can transition into viable businesses. The goal is to promote Macao’s unique position as a conduit for international collaboration, particularly between China and the Portuguese-speaking world.
