USJ Macao joins Lingnan Special Education Alliance as a Founding Member University

Through this Alliance, USJ aims to strengthen its collaboration with institutions across the Lingnan region. The university looks forward to collaborating with alliance members to explore development paths that combine regional characteristics with an international perspective.



The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) Macao participated in the inaugural conference of the Lingnan Special Education Alliance and the First Lingnan Special Education Forum, held in Zhanjiang, Guangdong, from 29 to 30 November.

Invited by the organisers, Lingnan Normal University and the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Development and Education for Special Needs Children, USJ Macao officially became a founding member of the Alliance, which is dedicated to promoting collaborative innovation in regional special education. The event, which focused on coordinating and promoting the high-quality development of special education in the Greater Lingnan region, brought together almost 200 representatives from universities, special educational needs schools and industry leaders from across Guangdong Province.

The Alliance was co-initiated by ten universities, including Lingnan Normal University, the Education University of Hong Kong, Hunan Normal University, and USJ Macao. Prof. Isabel Tchiang, Dean of the School of Education at USJ, represented the university at the ceremony.

During the Forum, Prof. Tchiang was invited to deliver a keynote presentation titled ‘Special and Inclusive Education in Macao: An Introduction to the System and Teacher Training”. She provided an in-depth overview of Macao’s policy frameworks and shared USJ’s practical experience and achievements in training educators for the sector, receiving high praise from fellow experts.

Through this Alliance, USJ aims to strengthen its collaboration with institutions across the Lingnan region. The university looks forward to collaborating with alliance members to explore development paths that combine regional characteristics with an international perspective. This will contribute to the creation of a high-quality, systematic special educational framework for the Greater Bay Area and further.
