The visit aimed to study a practical business model that integrates product sourcing, cultural adaptation, and hospitality management.

On 22 October 2025, a group of students conducted an educational visit to the Quinta da Marmeleira at the Macao International Fair (MIF) and its restaurant located within the Venetian Macao. The visit, led by the Business Club mentor Prof. Florence Lei, aimed to study a practical business model that integrates product sourcing, cultural adaptation, and hospitality management.

The visit provided a case study on the operationalization of a family legacy. Assistant CEO, Ms. Carmen Wu detailed the strategic development of the business inherited from her father. Ms. Wu shared how the core of their business model consists of agricultural production from the Quinta da Marmeleira estate in Portugal. This foundation supports two primary customer-facing divisions: a retail arm for gourmet food products and a restaurant service in Macao. A travel agency division further supports the brand by facilitating cultural and gastronomic tourism to Portugal.

Key business insights included: 1) The enterprise demonstrated a systematic approach to adapting authentic Portuguese products for the Chinese market. Their success is predicated on a deep analysis of regional taste preferences and dining customs, providing a clear example of effective cross-cultural market entry. 2) Sustainable farming practices is emphasized not merely as an ethical stance, but as a integral component of their product quality assurance and long-term brand equity. 3) The visit illustrated how the restaurant and travel services function as experiential marketing channels, reinforcing the brand narrative and creating multiple revenue streams from a single supply chain.

The visit served as an effective practical supplement to business studies. The case study of Marmeleira exemplifies the successful management of a family legacy through strategic diversification and a focused understanding of target markets. The Business Club acknowledges Marmeleira’s contribution to student development through this practical learning session.
