The USJ Orientation Day 2025 themed “Explore and Navigate: Embark on Your Journey at USJ” was held on 28 August 28, warmly welcoming new students and assisting them in embarking on a new chapter on campus.
The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) held the USJ Orientation Day on 28 August 2025. This was to facilitate the integration of new students into campus life. It was also to enhance mutual interaction and communication. The theme this year was “Explore and Navigate: Embark on Your Journey at USJ”, featuring an innovative, game-based approach to guide new students through an orienteering experience and familiarise them with the campus. Activities included introductions to the campus environment and facilities, as well as specially designed sessions such as Faculty Sessions and Orienteering Sharing. The event attracted over a hundred professors and students, creating a lively atmosphere.
Held at the Fátima Auditorium on the Ilha Verde Campus, the event commenced at 1PM. The new students were greeted by a welcome speech from the university’s rector, Reverend Professor Stephen Morgan. Noting that the university had enrolled approximately 155 undergraduate students and 25 exchange students, Rector Morgan emphasised that respect for a diverse student body was at the core of the university’s spirit. He expressed his belief that bringing together faculty and students from different countries and cultural backgrounds would foster rich intellectual exchange and dialogue. He remarked that such diversity of perspectives is an essential part of the growth process in university education. He encouraged students to embrace new challenges bravely and engage actively in a transformative and discovery-filled learning journey. Lastly, he wished every student a remarkable academic year and encouraged them to experience the integration of multicultural learning.

During the event, students took part in group orienteering activities, completing various tasks both on and off campus. These included familiarising themselves with the functions and services of the Academic Affairs Office and the library. Throughout the process, groups of new students were accompanied by senior students as they explored the campus and learned about the operating hours and locations of sports facilities. The Office for Student and Alumni Affairs (OSAA) used the activity to build connections and help new students learn how to utilise campus resources, accelerating their adaptation to the university environment. While providing practical information, the event also successfully fostered a sense of belonging among the new students. The activity concluded with the Faculty Sessions. USJ’s Induction Week events continue on 3rd and 10th September.
