Professor Barbosa’s presentation, titled “Sustainable Digital Education: Exploring the Intersection of Technology and Human Creativity”, shared insights on blending technology with human ingenuity in education.



Professor Álvaro Barbosa, Vice-Rector of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ), delivered a keynote address at the “China Overseas Symposium on the Development of Interdisciplinary Design and Graduate Talent Training”, held on 26 – 27 August, 2025, at Wuyi University in Jiangmen, China. The event, organised by Wuyi University and co-sponsored by Jinan University to mark Wuyi University’s 40th anniversary and of its School of Applied Technology and Design, aimed to explore innovative pathways for interdisciplinary design development, optimise graduate education systems, and enhance the quality of postgraduate training amid advancements in AI, IoT, and big data.

Professor Barbosa’s presentation, titled “Sustainable Digital Education: Exploring the Intersection of Technology and Human Creativity”, shared insights on blending technology with human ingenuity in education. He was joined by distinguished speakers including Wu Zhijun (Vice President, Hunan Institute of Engineering), Li Haiming (Vice Dean, Art Research Institute, Soochow University), Han Ting (Vice Dean, School of Design, Shanghai Jiao Tong University), Fan Kaixi (Professor, China Academy of Art), Liu Zichuan (Dean, School of Fine Arts, Guangdong Technical Normal University), and Chen Haiquan (Professor, Jinan University).

The symposium, a distinctive assembly of experts, yielded a fruitful exchange focused on enhancing interdisciplinary design and graduate talent development, reflecting China’s dedication to fostering global academic partnerships in design and innovation.
