The USJ’s DIFFUSE Bamboo Pavilion, by the Department of Architecture and Design, was featured in the April 2025 Edition of Architecture Macau Magazine.

The DIFFUSE Bamboo Pavilion, a project by the Department of Architecture and Design of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ), was featured in the April 2025 Edition of Architecture Macau Magazine.

The ephemeral architectural structure was built on the long tradition of USJ bamboo pavilions, combining traditional bamboo craftsmanship and local artisanship with the innovative digital design expertise of USJ architecture and design students.

The DIFFUSE Bamboo Pavilion represented a complex of three independent interior spaces, embraced by an external bamboo fabric. Its unique form was derived from the specific needs and requests of stakeholders to create a space for exhibition, for an immersive sound installation and for workshops. The result was an unusual cluster of spaces, a unique interplay between volumes and voids, with varying bamboo densities. Its innovative form and tectonics aimed to advance architectural fabrication and to inspire the new generation to create spaces for community engagement and interpersonal exchange.

The pavilion was officially opened on January 2025, at the Ilha Verde Campus Courtyard, and stood as an invitation for cross-disciplinary collaboration, hosting exhibitions, lectures, workshops and other events.
