“The University of Saint Joseph granted me the opportunity to participate in the One Belt One Road event, which took place on 19 December 2019. I was extremely grateful for this opportunity because the most unexpected happened; I met His Excellency, The President of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Xi Jinping. It was a great honour to shake hands and have a quick conversation in Mandarin Chinese with the President.
I believe PRC’s One Belt One Road policy is a way forward that has been gaining better understanding and support from many countries in the world, for being a win-win policy whereby there will be only winners in the long run as many countries like China walk towards partnership and sustained development. I avail myself of this opportunity to congratulate Macao for the 20th-anniversary celebration as a Special Administrative Region. The importance of Macao is well-expressed by the honorable presence of His Excellency, The President of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Xi Jinping. The USJ’s involvement in the celebrations shows very well the prestige the university enjoys in the SAR.”

“I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the Higher Education Bureau of Macao for organising this special event “Belt and Road” and My Country Themed Salon, a platform for student from One Belt One Road country to communicate with. I am truly grateful for having the opportunity to participate in this event which held on the 19 December 2019. On that day, I was honoured to meet Mr. Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China. This is the most memorable moment of my life. Fortunately, I had a chance to shake hands with the president and have a short conversation with him in Mandarin Chinese. I believe One Belt One Road policy is set to bring win-win results in the world, and in the process lift millions of people out of poverty, raise living standards and connect the world in a way never before seen with the main aim of promoting intercontinental trade and building infrastructure to connect Europe, Asia and Africa through land and sea.”
