USJ Launches Radio.Me - An Academic Web Radio for the Portuguese-Speaking World

Macao welcomes a new voice in the academic and Lusophone universe! The web radio station “Radio.Me” is an innovative project aiming to connect Portuguese-speaking communities through biographical narratives and knowledge, formally inaugurated on 30 April during the International Symposium Tell.Me 2025 at USJ Macao.
Radio.Me was born from the project “Radio.Me: Autobiographical Narrative in Academic Radio Communication as a Tool for Transdisciplinary Cultural Cohesion from Macau to the Lusophone World“. This initiative, funded by the Macau Foundation and led by the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) Macao, collaborates with important higher education institutions in the Portuguese-speaking world: the University of São Paulo (USP), the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), both in Brazil, and the Catholic University of Portugal (UCP).
With the ambition to become a global academic web radio station, Radio.Me, broadcasting in Portuguese, primarily focuses on personal biographical narratives. The platform recognizes the power of these stories in disseminating collective memory and affirming the identity of the peoples, countries, and territories of the Lusophony.
Radio.Me is established with a founding hub at the Doctoral School of USJ Macao. The initial collaboration network expands with associated hubs at the School of Communications and Arts at USP, in Brazil, the Braga delegation of UCP, in Portugal, and the Institute of Arts at UNICAMP, also in Brazil.
According to Prof. António Maneira, a member of the Radio.Me project team, the initiative has a vision of growth and integration: “The project aims to gather hubs in the different Portuguese-speaking countries and territories, involving ‘the five from Africa’ (Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe), the two from Asia (Timor-Leste and Macau), Brazil, and Portugal.”
For Prof. Adérito Fernandes-Marcos, General Director of Radio.Me, the role of narratives is fundamental: “Biographical narratives can be powerful tools for the preservation of collective memory in the Lusophone space, preserving ancestral knowledge and promoting the recognition of cultural practices that are sometimes unknown or even hidden. Radio.Me can play an important role in this goal.”
The inaugural programming of Radio.Me is already on air, featuring a rich and diverse repertoire. It includes a collection of 48 autobiographical radio narratives extracted from the acclaimed program “Diversidade em Ciência” (Diversity in Science) from Rádio USP, authored by Professor Ricardo Alexino Ferreira from USP, one of the founders and Co-Director of Radio.Me. Complementing this offering there are 23 interviews with personalities from Macao, resulting from the CONTA.ME project, alternating with moments of eclectic musical content.

A USJ lança a Radio.Me, Rádio Web Académica para o Mundo de Língua Portuguesa
Macau acolhe uma nova voz no universo académico e lusófono. A rádio web “Radio.Me”, um projeto inovador que visa conectar comunidades de língua portuguesa através de narrativas biográficas e conhecimento, foi formalmente inaugurada no passado dia 30 de abril, no âmbito do simpósio internacional Tell.Me, realizado na Universidade de São José (USJ).
A Radio.Me nasce do projeto “Radio.Me: Narrativa Autobiográfica na Comunicação Radiofónica Académica como Ferramenta de Coesão Cultural Transdisciplinar de Macau para o Mundo Lusófono”. Esta iniciativa, financiada pela Fundação Macau e liderada pela USJ, conta com a colaboração de importantes instituições de ensino superior de língua portuguesa: a Universidade de São Paulo (USP), a Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP), do Brasil, e a Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP).
Com a ambição de se tornar uma estação de rádio web académica global, a Radio.Me, em língua portuguesa, tem como foco principal as narrativas biográficas pessoais. A plataforma reconhece o poder destas histórias na difusão da memória coletiva e na afirmação da identidade dos povos, dos países e dos territórios da Lusofonia.
A Radio.Me estabelece-se com um polo fundador na Escola Doutoral da Universidade de São José, em Macau. A rede inicial de colaboração expande-se com polos associados na Escola de Comunicações e Artes da USP, no Brasil, na delegação de Braga da UCP, em Portugal, e no Instituto de Artes da UNICAMP, também no Brasil.
Segundo o Prof. António Maneira, membro da equipa do projeto Radio.Me, a iniciativa tem uma visão de crescimento e integração: “O projeto pretende agregar polos nos diferentes países e territórios de língua portuguesa, envolvendo “os cinco da África” (Angola, Cabo Verde, Guiné-Bissau, Moçambique, São Tomé e Príncipe), os dois da Ásia (Timor Leste e Macau), o Brasil e Portugal.”
Para o Professor Adérito Fernandes-Marcos, Diretor Geral da Radio.Me, o papel das narrativas é fundamental: “As narrativas biográficas podem ser ferramentas poderosas para a preservação da memória coletiva no espaço da lusofonia, preservando saberes ancestrais e promovendo o reconhecimento de práticas culturais por vezes desconhecidas ou mesmo ocultas. A Radio.Me pode assumir um papel importante neste desiderato.”
A programação inaugural da Radio.Me já se encontra no ar, apresentando um repertório rico e diversificado. Inclui um conjunto de 48 narrativas autobiográficas radiofónicas extraídas do aclamado programa “Diversidade em Ciência” da Rádio USP, da autoria do Professor Ricardo Alexino Ferreira da USP, um dos fundadores e Co-Diretor da Radio.Me. Complementando esta oferta, há 23 entrevistas a personalidades de Macau, resultantes do projeto CONTA.ME, intercaladas por momentos musicais de cariz eclético.
