USJ Hosts Career Talk and Workshop to Help Students Explore Macao’s Employment Market and Enhance Interview Image

A Career Talk on 12 March focused on youth employment services and specialized employment programmes, while on 18 March, the Career Workshop focused on Interview Image.
To help students understand the latest employment information, the Office for Student and Alumni Affairs (OSAA) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) organized a Career Talk on the 12th of March which focused on youth employment services and specialized employment programmes. Representatives from the Labour Affairs Bureau, Sands China, and SJM Resorts were invited as speakers. On the 18th of March, the Career Workshop on Interview Image was also held.
Labour Affairs Bureau Youth Employment Services
The Career Talk, which was part of the USJ Career Fair 2026 series, was organised at the Ilha Verde Campus. The content covered topics such as the current state of Macao’s job market, youth employment support services, and the information of specialized employment programmes. It was aimed to provide students with practical career guidance and advice for future career planning.
Ms. Annie Chan, the representative from the Employment Department of the Labour Affairs Bureau, provided an overview of Macao’s current employment demographics. Using occupational distribution charts, she illustrated the structure of Macao’s labour market and job distribution, as well as how to use the One Account application to check the latest job vacancies. She also highlighted the current scenario under Macao’s “1+4” moderate economic diversification strategy, emphasising the potential future trends in talent demand.
The session also detailed the five major employment support services provided by the Labour Affairs Bureau for young people, including local internship programmes and Mainland internship programmes, offering real-life examples of how such programmes cultivate talent to meet industry demands.These initiatives aim to help students broaden their horizons and enhance their competitiveness. Ms. Chan explained the various employment promotion measures, such as resident employment support initiatives, large-scale job fairs, and the unique features and diverse job types of the “Employment + Training” specialised programmes. The talk was concluded with an introduction to the 2026 employment promotion schedule, encouraging young students to actively participate in these activities to prepare for their future career planning.
Afterwards, the representatives from Sands China and SJM Resorts introduced their diversified operations, development opportunities, 2026 training programmes, and information on catering roles. Through interactive questions, they guided students to reflect on the alignment between their strengths and market demands, helping them gain a clearer understanding of the current challenges and realities of the job market.
The talk provided students with extensive employment information and practical advice, enabling them to better understand the current state and future trends of Macao’s job market. Through the representatives’ insight, students were also better equipped to plan their career development paths.




Career Workshop on Job Interview Image
The career workshop titled “Elevate Your Interview Presence” took place on 18 March, sponsored by Macau Foundation which was led by Ms. Catherine Cheong, a qualified Personal Image Consultant . The content covered the importance of first impressions in workplace interviews, the three main categories of business attire, self-analysis of body type and frame, and hands-on experiences.
Combining theory and practice, the workshop included an interactive segment called “Interview Self-Portrait.” Ms. Cheong invited the participants to draw self-portraits to specifically examine and plan their overall styling for interview settings. She guided students to consider the key elements of an interview attire. Meanwhile, she provided immediate feedback based on the drawing details, offering practical advice on major aspects of appropriate workplace attire. During the process, students learned the importance of positive listening, facial expression, eye contact, body posture, and other non-verbal language to create a good impression.


USJ will continue to organise similar events in the future, serving as a bridge to connect students with enterprises and supporting the growth and development of young students.
