In full support of the 15th National Games of the People’s Republic of China, the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th National Special Olympic Games, the University of Saint Joseph(USJ) held a National Games Volunteer Cheering Session aimed at boosting volunteer morale and promoting the spirit of dedication. The event specially invited Mr. Carlos Roberto Xavier, Acting Deputy Director of the Education and Youth Development Bureau(DSEDJ), and Dr. Teresa Loong, Vice Rector of USJ, along with other faculty and staff, to attend and join the volunteers in witnessing this inspiring moment.
The cheering session was held in the evening of 24 October at the USJ Ilha Verde Campus. The event was hosted by USJ student Liu Yuyang, representing the university’s volunteers. In her welcome speech, Dr. Teresa Loong, Vice Rector of USJ, stated that the National Games is not only a nationally renowned sporting event, but is also an important platform for showcasing the city’s vibrancy, uniting societal strength, and conveying humanistic care. The university always upholds the mission of serving society and contributing its strength, with all faculty and students actively responding to the call and fully engaging in the recruitment and organization of volunteers. In this process, we sincerely thank DSEDJ and the National Games Organizing Committee for their heartfelt guidance provided to USJ volunteers. It is this professional support and detailed leadership that has enabled the volunteers to be fully prepared and confident. She emphasized that volunteer service is not just about giving, but is also about growth and gain. Having the opportunity to participate in and serve at a national event is an honor and a valuable life experience. She hoped that everyone could demonstrate the outstanding qualities of USJ students, expressing the volunteer spirit of dedication, friendship, mutual aid, and progress with passion, professionalism, and sincerity, thereby adding colours to the Games.
During the event, Liu Yuyang shared with the attendees that he greatly anticipates the new challenge of this volunteer service. Through past volunteer service, he has continuously unlocked new skills and made new friends, maintaining his initial passion and motivation for participation. Through this cheering session, he wanted to encourage first-time participants to be brave in facing new knowledge from different fields. He also emphasized that teamwork would be the key to success in this event; only by supporting each other and facing difficulties together can strength be consolidated and morale boosted, achieving task completion while enabling collective growth. Simultaneously, he thanked the university for providing the valuable platform to participate in the National Games and pledged to live up to expectations by uniting and striving together with fellow students to create experiences and memories.
During the session, the two videos “Volunteering Together, Lighting Up the National Games” and the volunteer theme song for the National Games were played. These further ignited the passion and sense of mission among the volunteers present. This cheering session has enhanced the cohesion of the volunteer team and a solid foundation for USJ’s volunteer services during the National Games, showcasing the positive spirit of Macao’s youth in actively participating in social services and contributing to national events.
