The Faculty of Business and Law of the University of Saint Joseph and the School of Business of Guizhou Education University inaugurated the Guizhou-Macau-Lusophone Ecomonic and Social Research Centre.
On 29 April 2025, the Faculty of Business and Law of the University of Saint Joseph and the School of Business of Guizhou Education University inaugurated the Guizhou-Macau-Lusophone Ecomonic and Social Research Centre.
The Research Centre is co-developed between the two Faculties under the two Universities as a result of the MoU signed between the two Universities and the two Faculties in November 2024 for staff and students mobility, co-developing teaching materials, and research projects.
The delegation from Guizhou Education University included Prof. Pan Yun, Vice President of Guizhou Education University; Prof. Huang Dan, Dean and Party Committee Secretary of the Business School; Prof. Yu Lezheng, Dean of Graduate School; Ms. Xu Anti, Section Chief of International (Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan) Exchange Section, International Office of GZEU. The delegation came with distinguished guests including: Mr Ao Pak Loi, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC of Guizhou Province; Ms Huang Zijie, Executive of Guizhou Provincial Department of Higher Education; and Ms Karen Ao, local entrepreneur and distinguished alumnus of USJ.
USJ Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation, Prof. Alexandro Lobo, gave an opening speech on behalf of the USJ Rector at the start of the ceremony, followed by a speech by the Vice-Rector of the GZEU, Prof. Pan Yun. Then the Heads of the collaborative research centre, Prof. Huang Dan, Dean of the GEU School of Business of GZEU and Prof. Jenny Phillips, Dean of USJ-FBL, shared their vision and strategy for the centre, which is to develop closer connection between Guizhou and Macau to co-develop research on international trade, culture and policy between China and Lusophone countries. Aside from research, the Guizhou-Macau-Lusophone Ecomonic and Social Research Centre will also serve as a platform for closer academic collaboration between Guizhou and Macau.
The research centre was officially opened by the two Heads of the Centre, and presided over by the Vice-Rectors of the two universities, Mr. Ao Pak Loi and Ms. Karen Ao.
