School Opening and Dedication Mass of the Chapel of the new USJ and CDSJ Campus on 23rd September

The new chapel of the University of St Joseph and the Diocesan College of St Joseph was dedicated last Sunday, 23rd of September, by Bishop Stephen Lee. Designed by Japanese architect Koji Yagi, it will be available for daily Mass celebrations, confessions and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

During the homily, the bishop made reference to the chapel’s architectural design that resembled a typhoon of faith that does not destroy but rather spreads the good. The Mass also signalled the beginning of the academic year.

USJ Rector Father Peter Stilwell remarked that the inauguration represents “another step in the development of the University and the College. We expect the place to provide a quality of education and training that gives a good name not only to educational institutions but also to the Diocese to whom they belong.”

Father Stilwell, following the thought of Pope Francis, added that the university has to build bridges. “Instead of creating barriers and identity borders, which are a source of conflict, we should be a space where everyone feels welcome. I think that this is the true meaning of our status as Catholics.” He defended “a Catholic university open to all, which does not condition anyone, but which is based on a fundamental principle of Christianity and humanity, that is, the search for truth – the truth that we find truly revealed in Jesus Christ.”
