The 1st Sino-Luso Conference on Sustainable Blue Biotechnology will be held from 24 – 25 April, 2025, at the Don Bosco Auditorium.



The First Sino-Luso Conference on Sustainable Blue Biotechnology aims to bring together researchers and industry professionals from China and Portuguese-speaking countries to foster collaboration in the fields of marine and sustainable biotechnology. The conference invites participants from research institutions and industries in Portuguese-speaking countries and China, including the Greater Bay Area (GBA), Macao and Hong Kong, who are interested in knowledge exchange, networking, and developing partnerships to address global sustainability challenges.

The conference focuses on recent advances in marine and sustainable biotechnology and their contributions to sustainability, human health, and economic development. Some of the topics under discussion include bioprospecting and bio-resources for different industries, bioremediation, aquaculture, pollution monitoring, micro-algae applications, biodiversity conservation, sustainable bioenergy sources, biomaterials, biological processes for resource recovery, bio-based materials and products, waste valorisation, circular economy among others.    

A key objective of the conference is to facilitate knowledge exchange and networking among research institutions and innovative companies from Portuguese-speaking countries and the GBA, through Macao. The goal is to enhance cooperation in sustainable marine and environmental biotechnology and identify opportunities for collaborative university-to-university and university-to-industry research projects.

The outcomes of this conference will support global efforts to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by bridging research advancements in sustainable and marine biotechnology with sustainable economic development.

The conference is a co-organisation of the University of Saint Joseph, Macao and Sustainable Development Association.
