Embark on a visual journey and uncover the rich biodiversity of Macao’s wetlands in our upcoming competition, “Macao’s Wetland Treasures: 2024 Biodiversity Photography Competition” organized by the Institute of Science and Environment at the University of Saint Joseph and sponsored by The Drop by Drop project within the context of the new ISE project “One Drop at a Time: Exploring Biodiversity in Macao’s Urban Wetland Ecosystems and the Role of Water Stewardship”, this contest invites photographers of all levels to capture the unique charm of Macao’s wetland ecosystems.

Share your latest works between January and April 2024, showcasing the diverse flora and fauna that make these wetlands extraordinary. Be part of this initiative to raise awareness and appreciation for the importance of wetland conservation. Cash prizes and trophies await outstanding entries.

Submit your snapshots to the submission link by April 15, 2024 August 30, 2024 (new deadline), and let your photos tell the story of Macao’s Wetland Treasures.


Details:

Objectives: To promote awareness and appreciation of coastal wetlands and biodiversity in Macao.

Organiser: Institute of Science and Environment, University of Saint Joseph

Sponsor: The Drop by Drop project 

  • Photographs should showcase the beauty and importance of flora and fauna within Macao’s unique coastal wetland ecosystems. The goal is to raise awareness and appreciation through images illustrating the diverse plant and animal life in these crucial habitats. Entries should feature images highlighting species diversity and natural landscapes characterizing these wetland ecosystems.

Requirements related to Submission: 

  1. Presented photos must be the latest works between January 2024 to April 2024
  2. Each participant can submit unlimited entries.
  3. Photographs should be submitted in the original digital format; the resolution should be not less than 2 megapixels, and in a JPEG file. 
  4. Photos can be taken with any camera, i.e., DSLR, digital camera, or phone camera. 
  5. Entries must be original, unpublished biodiversity works.
  6. Digital post-processing techniques are permitted to enhance photos creatively. 
  7. In case of repeated uploading from the same person/group, the Organizer reserves the right to accept the last upload. The organizer has the final interpretation of the competition rules. 
  8. In case of repeated uploading of the same file/photograph from different persons/groups, the Organizer reserves the right to accept the first upload. The organizer has the final interpretation of the competition rules.
  9. Each participant must provide a title, the photographer’s name, and the location (GPS coordinates recommended) for each submitted work. The file name for each digital photo must contain the participant’s full name and the work’s title (e.g., “1_Chan Sio Meng_Beautiful Blue Triangle”).
  10. Participants must fill in the online application form and upload the original photograph to this SUBMISSION LINK on or before April 15, 2024 New deadline is August 30, 2024.

Evaluation Criteria:

Works will be evaluated based on four themes:

  • Representation of biodiversity (plant and animal species in the  wetlands)
    • Illustration of specific plant and animal subjects
    • Connection to the overarching goal of showcasing the natural beauty and importance of conserving Macao’s coastal wetland environments.
  • Aesthetic composition 
  • Technical quality

This competition is open to all school students, public individuals of all ages and backgrounds, and other interested individuals or organizations in Macao.


Prizes:

The judging panel will base their evaluations and selection of award recipients according to the criteria outlined in this competition mechanics and the following prizes will be given:

  • 1st Prize: MOP 2000 cash prize and trophy (2 quotas)
  • 2nd Prize: MOP 1500 cash prize and trophy (3 quotas)
  • 3rd Prize: MOP 1000 cash prize and trophy (5 quotas)
  • Distinction: MOP 200 cash prize and trophy (10 quotas)

All participants can request a certificate of participation, and certificates will be distributed to all winners. 

The organizer reserves the right to disqualify entries in case of misrepresentation of the competition theme.
