On May 21, 2026, the Teachers’ Professional Development Centre (TPDC) hosted a staff development workshop titled “Teaching for Diverse Learners in Higher Education: A UDL- and AI-Informed Approach”. Led by Dr. Hsu-Min Chiang, an adjunct assistant professor of the School of Education (SED), the session was attended by 17 staff members from the English Language Centre (ELC) and the SED.

The training addressed the diverse learning needs of the USJ student body in alignment with United Nations SDG4 (Quality Education) and SDG10 (Reduced Inequalities). By focusing on understanding the characteristics of diverse learners in higher education and applying Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles, participants focused on implementing inclusive instructional strategies and designing equitable assessment approaches. Additionally, the session explored how addressing AI can be used to support these goals by providing targeted resources for students with varying abilities and linguistic backgrounds.
